After the breakout success of the Chronomaster Sport just under two years ago, Zenith now presents a totally overhauled Chronomaster Open for Watches & Wonders 2022. The now-previous iteration of the Chronomaster was more than due for an update and the refreshed version has an all-new smaller case and, of course, that 1/10th second El Primero movement.
Brand: Zenith
Model: Chronomaster Open
Dimensions: 39.5mm
Water Resistance: 100 meters
Case Material: Stainless steel/Rose gold
Movement: El Primero 3604 Automatic
Strap/Bracelet: Stainless steel bracelet/leather
Price & Availability: $10,000 in steel, $21,300 in Rose Gold
The previous generation of the Chronomaster Open (check it out here) measured 42mm-wide and had the El Primero 4061 movement. This new, updated model trims the case size down to a much more wearable and contemporary 39.5mm-wide and uses the new El Primero 3604 automatic AKA 1/10th second movement that has proliferated across Zenith’s collections recently.
In addition to a new case and movement, the “open” part of the dial is achieved in a different and, in my opinion, better-looking way. Rather than cutting out the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, the new Chronomaster Open keeps the classic tri-color chronograph layout with a new view into the silicon star-shaped escape wheel. I think it looks fresher and more contemporary without that “scooped out” look that can turn some people off from these kinds of watches.
The new Zenith Chronomaster Open will debut in three versions, two in steel on a matching steel bracelet with either a black or white dial priced at $10,000. There will also be an 18k rose-gold model on blue calfskin strap priced at $21,300. You can learn more at zenith-watches.com.
