It’s been a long, long two years since Xetum had their last limited-edition model. As with their last LE model, they’ve opted to use their Tyndall model as the base for this new one. Even if you’re not intimately familiar with the brand, you’ve no doubt seen the Tyndall with its clean, lugless design. So, what’s different for this new version?
Right off the bat, you’ve got a much darker watch. While the regular Tyndall is in a brushed/polished case, the new LE features a deep PVD black. While they could have paired that with their existing black dial, Xetum upped the ante and instead went with carbon fiber.
I have to say – if you’ve not played around with a watch that has a CF dial, it’s really something you need to see to truly appreciate. While you certainly pick up the alternating weave pattern (that’s become familiar to us with all the Fast ‘n Furious imitators and their car hoods), it’s more interesting what it does to the applied numerals an indices.
Given how these dials have to be made, anything that’s painted onto the dial actually appears to float a bit. This is a neat visual trick, and gives some more depth to a dial that may otherwise appear flat (well, aside from the fiber weave, I suppose). And, with the bright white used for all indices and the handset, you’re ending up with a cleanly legible dial – albeit one with details “hiding” in plain sight.
The Xetum Tyndall PVD Carbon Fiber will be available starting today at a price of $1,695 (only a $300 premium over the stock model), and only 300 pieces will be made.
