The event is set amongst a shaky economic climate in the region. In Hong Kong, Swiss watch sales are down 21% in 2015. In China, the Shanghai stock market was down 35% at the end of August. What does this mean for the watch industry? Brands are going to play it safe, for the most part. Traditional style will be at the forefront, with complications giving way to simpler skeleton movements. Conspicuous consumption is becoming taboo in China, and the watch industry is taking note.
On a more positive note, the Swiss watch industry is focusing more on an oft overlooked demographic: women. Customized movements, fresh designs, and features like moving diamonds are expected to be seen at Watches & Wonders 2015. Like you guys, we’re looking forward to seeing what the third year of Watches & Wonders has in store for us.
