As May 2021 begins and the promise of summer adventure is right around the corner, there’s never been a better time to add an outdoor-ready field watch to your collection. The aBlogtoWatch team is here to help, and for our May giveaway we’re offering one winning community member a finely crafted tribute to perhaps the most famous field watch of all. One lucky winner will walk away with this Vaer A12 Dirty Dozen watch, which offers a faithful and handsome homage to the “Dirty Dozen” military field watches issued to the British military during World War II.
The 36mm stainless steel case of the Vaer A12 Dirty Dozen remains old-school compact on the wrist, but adds a refined touch to this classic military design. The brushed lugs and smooth bezel are contrasted with an elegant tapering polished chamfer, while the profile of the case sides is subtly rounded to add a more luxe feel. The domed sapphire crystal keeps the classic ’40s look intact, but a matching sapphire window in the display back gives wearers to examine the decorated interior of this rugged field watch. In keeping with its durable roots, the A12 Dirty Dozen offers a tough 100 meter water resistance.
Like the case, the dial of the Vaer A12 Dirty Dozen remains remarkably faithful to the classic British military designs that inspired it. The overall design is clean and legible, with printed Arabic numerals and a bold railroad outer minutes track. The gently tapering syringe hands and the 6 o’clock small seconds subdial both harken back to the original “Dirty Dozen” models of the ’40s, and Vaer adds just a hint of playful aging to the stark black and white dial layout with outer lume plots in a soft, warm khaki tone.
Vaer equips the A12 Dirty Dozen with the ETA 7001 handwound movement. With a brilliant mix of Geneva stripes and blued screws throughout, this is a handsome display piece through the sapphire caseback, but the ETA 7001 backs this up with solid performance, rugged construction, and a 42 hour power reserve at a 21,600 bph beat rate. To complete the package, Vaer offers the A12 Dirty Dozen with straps in both black alligator leather and classic Horween leather. MSRP for the Vaer A12 Dirty Dozen starts at $899.
