As August 2024 begins and the hottest days of summer lie ahead for much of the world, it’s a perfect time to extend the sun-kissed style of this time of year to your wrist. To this end, aBlogtoWatch has teamed up with Praesidus to give one lucky winner a classic military-style tool watch aged to the winner’s liking. One entrant will receive this stylish, durable Praesidus DD-45 “Dirty Dozen” watch, inspired by British military-issue timepieces from World War II and available in a wide range of optional styles.
At 38mm wide, the stainless steel case of the Praesidus DD-45 “Dirty Dozen” skirts the line between classic and contemporary, with simple utilitarian lines enlivened by polished highlights. Both the tapering lug chamfers and the sloping sides of the narrow bezel take on a high polish to contrast with the mix of radial and linear brushing across the major case surfaces, leading to a brighter, more refined feel than most vintage military-style watches. Despite the more elevated feel, this is still a field-ready tool watch, however, with a solid 100 meters of water resistance.
Praesidus offers the DD-45 “Dirty Dozen” with a trio of dial finish options, which the winner will be able to select from. All three follow the same basic layout, with straight sword hands, a clean, open outer railroad minutes track, slim, elegant printed Arabic numerals, and a handsome running seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The “Factory Fresh” dial style keeps this classic military layout just as it would have looked in 1945, with crisp white lume against a textured matte-black dial. For the “Patina” variant, Praesidus adds moderately aged khaki lume to the black dial, and for the full-bore “Tropical” model the brand opts for deeper khaki lume alongside a chemical and UV-aged dial surface in a rich mahogany brown.
Inside the Praesidus DD-45 “Dirty Dozen” beats the Landeron L24 automatic movement. The L24 is a respectable Swiss Made performer, boasting 40 hours of power reserve and a 28,800 bph beat rate. To complete the package, Praesidus offers the watch with three distinctive strap options, including a military green perlon strap, a bonklip-style stainless steel bracelet, and a heavily distressed leather strap in deep brown. The Praesidus DD-45 “Dirty Dozen” carries an MSRP of $875 USD.
