April 2024 is here at last, and as we gear up for the most important month in the watchmaking calendar it’s a natural time to think about adding a rugged military-inspired watch to the collection that can handle the rigors of international trade shows and beyond. aBlogtoWatch is here to help, and we’ve paired with MTM to offer one lucky winner the tough, capable Hypertec H-61 GMT watch, combining unique angular styling, two adjustable bezels, and enough durable construction to handle anything your travels might require.
Sized at an athletic 42mm wide, the MTM Hypertec H-61’s matte blasted gray PVD-coated stainless steel case offers a sharply angular, function-forward design. Elements like the dramatically planar straight lugs and 12-sided unidirectional bezel reinforce the design’s purposeful, aggressive ethos on the wrist, but the asymmetrical bolt-style crowns at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock truly set the Hypertec H-61 apart. Flanked by stylized triangular crown guards, these beefy, masculine crowns offer easy adjustment for both the movement and the bidirectional internal bezel. With a solid 100 meters of water resistance, this angular tool-oriented design should be well suited to a wide array of adverse environments.
Clean, functional, and easily legible at a glance, the MTM Hypertec H-61’s high-contrast off-white dial keeps practicality at the forefront. Broad sword hands and bold printed black indices keep the focus squarely on primary timekeeping functions on the wrist, while a small red needle GMT hand works in conjunction with the inner 24-hour scale. In this way, GMT functionality is preserved, but without detracting from the more important main timekeeping handset on the wrist. At 6 o’clock, MTM adds its distinctive applied sword emblem, tying this design in firmly with the brand’s modern military-influenced spirit.
MTM powers the Hypertec H-61 with the Swiss Ronda 505 quartz GMT movement. The Ronda 505 is a dependable, hard-wearing powerplant, able to withstand nearly any challenge the wearer might bring with a solid four-year battery life. To complete the design, MTM fits the watch with a suitably rugged NATO strap. The MTM Hypertec H-61 carries an MSRP of $465 USD.
