Blancpain

Blancpain is among the oldest registered manufacturers of high-quality wristwatches, first registered in 1735 in Villeret. Its motto is “Blancpain has never made a quartz watch and never will” and indeed the Swiss watchmaker only occupies itself with traditional mechanical watchmaking. Its luxury timepiece collections include the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Villeret, Air Command, Ladybird, and Metiers d’Art.

Blancpain is a producer of Swiss luxury watches and movements, owned and operated by the Swatch Group, a major luxury group that also owns watch brands such as Breguet, Omega, Glashutte Original, Longines, and more. Blancpain was originally revitalized by Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet who purchased the rights to the Blancpain name in 1983.

In 1992, Blancpain was acquired by SSIH, also known as the Swatch Group for a reported 60 million Swiss francs. What led to Blancpain’s success that began during the 1990s is its rich history and that it could leverage the fact it had never produced a quartz watch. Blancpain is a proud producer of exclusively mechanical Swiss watches.

Its best-known watch collections are the Fifty Fathoms line of rugged and vintage watch-inspired dive watches, and the Villeret line of dressy and elegant watches. The Blancpain Fifty Fifty Fathoms is the first ever dive watch, but not the first ever waterproof watch. Blancpain frequently pays tribute to its classic vintage watches especially in the Fifty Fathoms, Bathyscaphe, and Air Command collections. The brand’s universe revolves around the Blancpain Ocean Commitment and Art de Vivre initiations. The Le Brassus-based company is renowned for its rich history as a quality watchmaker.

For watch enthusiasts, the most popular Blancpain products tend to fall within the Fifty Fathoms, Bathyscaphe, and Villeret lines.
