Aviation-inspired watches often serve as an important cornerstone in watch design that collectors pursue vigorously. But, aside from the usual Fliegers, pilot chronographs, and “ani-digi” offerings from brands like Breitling, the genre is slow to evolve. Inspired by the golden age of aviation, Tockr is a new American watch brand that’s taking a unique approach to aviation-focused watches in the hopes of bringing something different to watch collectors. The approach is subtle, refined, and this particular model – the Tockr C-47 Wing – pulls certain themes from radial aircraft engines, an innovation responsible for propelling the world of aviation into the modern era. Today, Tockr is excited to announce their latest giveaway, where you’ll get a chance to win your very own C-47 Wing.
Before getting into the giveaway details, let’s take a quick look at the watch. The Tockr C-47 Wing starts with a totally unique case designed from the ground up in the shape of an airfoil, which is often used to demonstrate the principals of lift in fixed-wing aircraft. It’s also completely sandblasted for a sleek look and manufactured from 316L stainless steel. No catalog cases here, this design has been exclusively developed for Tockr watches. The sapphire crystal is also completely custom and has a unique curve to it that flows seamlessly with the C-47 Wing’s case. Then we move to the dial, where the design really shows itself off. While the display is essentially basic, the dial is three-dimensional with a raised radial engine design that serves as the backdrop for the dial. It’s fully custom, hand-pressed, and hand-finished out of bronze by TEC Ebauches in Switzerland. Simple baton-style hour and minute hands support easy legibility together with the red-tipped seconds hand. A simple wing rivet pattern and a display caseback round out the look as well.
The movement is the caliber 726/A08 from Leschot S.A. in Switzerland. It runs at 4Hz, offers 42 hours of power reserve, and has been customized for Tockr to accommodate the raised hand design that’s necessary for the radial engine display. Water resistance for the Tockr C-47 Wing is 50m and the watch comes on a comfortable, hand-stitched calf leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle. Each Tockr C-47 Wing is also individually numbered (but not limited).
Aside from offering the C47 in both “Wing” and “Radial” configurations, Tockr has also introduced a no-nonsense pilot chronograph to the mix – the Tockr Air Defender. This Valjoux 7750-powered timepiece serves as the brand’s entry point, which presents considerable value with prices starting at $1,250 USD for the base model on a strap.
At the heart of Tockr is Austin Ivey – a Texas-based aviator – and his team members Sophy Rindler (Co-founder) and Serge Aebischer (CEO). With a passion for design, watches, and aviation, Austin opted to skip the crowdfunding process altogether and fund Tockr 100% out-of-pocket. The core of his inspiration can also be traced back to his grandfather, a U.S. Army pilot who flew C-47 transports during World War II. Additionally, Tockr watches will be available for purchase soon at Neiman Marcus and TrueFacet. Now, time for those giveaway details for the Tockr C-47 Wing, which retails for $2,400 USD.
