In the year since its initial announcement, the Tissot PRX series has taken the watch enthusiast community by storm, bringing the desirable ‘70s-style integrated bracelet sports watch look to the more accessible side of the market with panache and legitimate heritage. As the PRX collection enters its second year, Tissot is aiming to aggressively expand the line, and leading this charge is the series’ first complication design. Available in a pair of colorways, the new Tissot PRX Chronograph is set to bring the style and feel of the red-hot integrated bracelet sports chronograph segment to the masses with a cleanly streamlined profile and surprisingly intricate finishing.

At 42mm-wide, the integrated stainless steel case of the Tissot PRX Chronograph should wear appreciably larger than its slim 40mm-wide three-hand counterparts, but maintains the same streamlined ‘70s-inspired profile. The clean geometric form breaks up its sharply brushed planes with a brightly polished case sides chamfer in initial images, along with a tall sloping polished bezel. Although the brand does not list an overall thickness for the PRX Chronograph, based on initial images and the movement within, this will likely prove to be a significantly bolder wearing presence than the svelte standard PRX. However, Tissot’s design for the PRX Chronograph’s pushers integrates seamlessly into the overall design language, with brightly polished rectangular forms that feel like a natural extension of the faceted case body in initial photos. Tissot fits the PRX Chronograph with a sapphire display caseback and rates the watch for a reasonably sporting 100 meters of water resistance.

Tissot offers the PRX Chronograph with a pair of dial options, both of which iterate on classic colorways. The more versatile and classical of the two is a classic vertically brushed navy blue dial, mated to an outer minutes scale and subdials in bright silver. There’s an impressive amount of detail present in these elements in images, from the matching azurage rings for the minutes scale and each subdial to the brightly polished outer accent rings surrounding each subdial. Even the dial hardware is nicely detailed, with a matching blend of brushed and polished surfaces between the baton handset and the slender applied indices. That said, the dial layout is not without its quirks, as some enthusiasts may take umbrage with the printed PRX emblem within the 6 o’clock chronograph hours subdial or the abrupt placement and mismatched color of the 4:30 date display. Also, while the vertically brushed main dial surface is executed handsomely in images, there is no word from Tissot yet on whether the three-hand PRX line’s fan-favorite tapisserie-style guilloche dial finish will make its way into the chronograph line in the future. For those searching for a more upscale feel, Tissot also offers the PRX Chronograph with a classic black-on-silver panda dial colorway with hands and indices in a striking rose-gold tone. Although the deep black used for the subdials and minutes scale obscures some of the more intricate finishing on these parts in images, the dial-matching date display and eye-catching rose gold elements make this something of a trade-off.

Inside the Tissot PRX Chronograph beats the Valjoux A05.H31 automatic chronograph movement. With a lineage tracing back to the long-serving Valjoux 7750, the cam-lever A05.H31 brings updated performance to the platform with a robust 60-hour power reserve at a 28,800 bph beat rate. The A05.H31 also brings an impressive level of finishing to bear in images, with perlage across the plates and balance cock flanked by brushed and polished bridges, and a handsomely brushed skeleton rotor. The PRX line’s trademark integrated stainless steel bracelet finishes off the PRX Chronograph, with broad-brushed links featuring polished highlights and a tapering design that flows seamlessly into the lines of the case in images.

With a bolder wrist presence, handsome colorways, and commendable value for money in both finishing and performance, the new Tissot PRX Chronograph line stands as a strong vanguard for the series’ second year of releases while already generating immense enthusiast buzz for the brand.
