Tapping into its 1970s hit watch, Bulova has revived the Super Seville for a new generation of watch enthusiasts to enjoy. The seventies era was significant for watchmaking, marking a shift toward quartz technology to achieve never-before-seen precision. Bulova was a pioneer in the field then, and continues to champion this timekeeping technology today, as illustrated by the Bulova Precisionist movement that powers the new Super Seville models.
The new-generation Bulova Super Seville watches proudly place retro aesthetics at the forefront, sporting TV-shaped cases. The rounded square cases are fashioned from stainless steel and measure 38mm — a versatile size that can be enjoyed by a wide range of wrists. The coin-edged fluted bezels, reminiscent of those found on vintage Super Seville timepieces, add visual interest and a touch of dressiness. Leaning into the ’70s vibe, the contemporary Super Seville watches have integrated tapered three-link bracelets, creating a seamless silhouette with the case.
Bulova offers three variations of the Super Seville: two silver-tone stainless steel models with blue or green dials, in addition to a gold-tone stainless steel version with a white dial. All the dials include vertical brushing, polished hands and indices, and a date window at 3 o’clock. For easier reading, those date windows are magnified via protruding lenses affixed to the flat sapphire crystals protecting the dials. The hands and hour markers are coated with luminous material for optimal in-the-dark legibility.
Also on the dials are the “262 kHz” inscriptions, referencing Bulova’s proprietary high-precision quartz Precisionist movements inside the cases. The Bulova Precisionist is an 8-jewel quartz movement that vibrates at a remarkable 262kHz — eight times greater than standard quartz movements — resulting in the signature sweeping seconds hand. Plus, the HPQ Precisionist is also accurate to seconds a year and offers increased resistance to temperature swings.
Commenting on the new releases, Jeffrey Cohen, President of Citizen Watch America, stated, “Despite variations in design over time, Bulova’s Super Seville watches have remained sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike, thanks to their unique blend of style, innovation, and craftsmanship. Today, these timepieces stand as a testament to Bulova’s enduring legacy in the world of horology.”
Steeped in heritage and revered for its stylish sophistication, the latest Super Seville watches offer an appealing combination of classic design and modern engineering. The silver-toned variants with blue (ref. 96B440) or green (ref. 96B439) dials retail for $695 USD whereas the gold-tone version (ref. 97B223) retails for $775 USD.
