This week on the SUPERLATIVE podcast, our host and aBlogtoWatch Founder Ariel Adams is joined by two key members from the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers, Mike France, and Roger Smith. Along with being the CEO of Christopher Ward, Mike France is also one of the Co-Founders of the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers, and in addition to being best known as the protege of the late George Daniels and one of the world’s greatest living watchmakers, Roger Smith is also the chairman of the Alliance. To start the episode, Roger gives us an introduction to the Alliance and its core mission, along with what British watchmaking means today. Mike then talks about the size and scope of the British watchmaking industry, and how becoming more self-reliant with regard to manufacturing will ultimately lead to greater growth and a more stable long-term future. Roger and Mike both offer some insight into how the British watchmaking industry can re-industrialize in the modern era, and how collaborations between companies can ultimately promote greater synergistic growth throughout the entire industry. As the show comes to an end, Ariel asks our guests about some of the next steps for the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers and how other people and brands can join and become members themselves.
Officially formed in 2020, the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers was created with the goal of promoting and cultivating watchmaking in the UK. Based on an inclusive and collaborative approach, the Alliance aims to nurture the resurgence of British watchmaking and ultimately help create a more stable and thriving industry.
