In addition to being the captain of the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL) and a Norris Trophy-winning defenceman, Roman Josi is also a co-founder of the Swiss independent watchmaker Norqain. Together, Roman Josi and the Bienne-based brand are proud to introduce two new high-performance sports watches: the Norqain Wild ONE Skeleton Grey 42mm watch and the Norqain Wild ONE Skeleton Gold watch.
The Norqain Wild ONE Skeleton Grey 42mm watch features a gray Norteq case that sandwiches a black rubber shock absorber for added durability. Norteq is the company’s proprietary carbon fiber material that is ultra-robust, ultra-light, and highly shock-resistant — all the traits you’d want and need in a sports watch. This is the first time Norqain has produced Norteq, which is six times lighter than steel and 3.5 times lighter than titanium, in gray. The case measures 42mm in diameter, 12.30mm thick, 49.40mm lug-to-lug, and is water resistant to 200 meters. The screw-down winding crown is over-molded with black rubber while the opposite case side is home to an engraved Norqain plate.
The Wild ONE Skeleton 42mm Gold is the first gold version of the skeletonized Wild ONE model. Its dimensions and architecture are the same as the Grey model but materials-wise, the case’s top section is fashioned from 18k PX Impact red gold while the bottom one is made from black NORTEQ; these pieces come together to sandwich a brown rubber shock absorber, which in turn shrouds a sandblasted titanium cage that houses the movement. In all, Wild ONE Skeleton watch cases include 25 components and can withstand 5000g. The production of Wild ONE Skeleton Gold will be limited to 100 pieces per year.
“The Wild ONE Gold was one of our most successful launches of 2023 and it sold out in a flash,” said Ben Küffer, Norqain founder and CEO. “It was only natural to introduce our responsibly sourced [PX Impact] gold into the skeletonized version of the Wild ONE, too, and we’re delighted with the result.”
Both versions of the watch come fitted with open-worked dials, which may be unconventional for a sports watch yet they are safely nestled in their respective super tough cases. The Wild ONE Skeleton Grey includes black-plated indices and hands whereas the Wild ONE Skeleton Gold has red gold-plated ones, all furnished with X1 Super-LumiNova for nighttime visibility.
The design of the skeletonized dial reveals parts of Caliber NB08S, a COSC-certified automatic skeleton movement that operates at 28,800 beats per hour and supplies 41 hours of power reserve. Another view of the black ruthenium-treated movement is provided via the sapphire crystal caseback where the personalized Norqain-branded oscillating weight is on full display.
The Wild ONE Skeleton Grey is paired with an animal cruelty-free black Milanese-style rubber strap with a matching grey Norteq pin buckle. Conversely, the Wild One Skeleton Gold watch comes fitted with the same style strap but in brown and is available with either an 18k red gold or black Norteq pin buckle.
Commenting on the release of the Wild ONE Skeleton, Roman Josi said, “This watch is exactly what I’ve always wanted. It’s ultra-light and ultra-robust.” He further added, “I can wear it while training and pushing my limits, and yet it looks stunning as a skeletonized Swiss-made mechanical watch. It transitions seamlessly into my life outside the rink. For me, it’s the perfect expression of Norqain’s ‘my life, my way’ philosophy.”
Available now, prices for the Wild ONE Skeleton 42mm watches are as follows: $5,790 USD for the Grey (ref. NNQ3000QGB1AS/B018/3W1BR.20GQ), $14,150 USD for the Gold with a black Norteq buckle (ref. NNQ3000GGN1AS/N001/3W1NR.20BQ), and $15,950 USD for Gold with a red gold buckle (ref. NNQ3000GGN1AS/N001/3W1NR.20GG).
