Announced at Baselworld 2018, Sinn has released an extension of their three-hand model lineup with the Sinn 836. At a glance, the 836 looks quite familiar to previous Sinn models such as the 556 or the 856. Where the 836 differs, however, is its size. Sinn has taken the design language found in their three-hand collection and settled it into a larger 43mm diameter case chock full of the usual Sinn accouterments.

Analysis
There are a few check boxes when it comes to Sinn releases: Tegimented steel? Check. Anti-magnetic case? Check. Unforgiving German tool watch vibe? Check. That’s not to say that’s a bad thing, however. Sinn has been consistently releasing some of the most interesting watches in the industry in my opinion. In certain instances/models, their approach can seem a bit over the top, with over-engineering for the sake of over-engineering. With the Sinn 836 however, what you get is a nicely proportioned case, a tegimented hardened finish that will keep it looking nice after actually wearing it, and a reliable movement beating along inside. The addition of the red seconds hand adds a nice bit of flair to Sinn’s usual three-hand style, and all in all, this looks like a great watch.
It’s not going to strike everyone’s interest, but I don’t think it’s supposed to. To me, this looks like Sinn trying to reach those customers that love the design aesthetic found in other models such as the 556 or 856, but found the case size on those models to be too small. But despite its larger diameter, this watch would likely wear comfortably on nearly any size wrist with its case thickness being a slender 10.5mm. As a whole, this watch is nothing monumental for Sinn. There’s no crazy complication, no moisture-capturing capsules embedded in the case, hell, there’s not even a rotating bezel. I don’t see this being a model I’d rush out to put pre-order dollars behind, but I do see it as a watch I’d recommend to friends or colleagues that aren’t “watch-guys,” who are looking to purchase a nice, reliable mechanical watch they could wear daily.
Summary
Retaining the pilot watch aesthetic Sinn has established over the years, the Sinn 836 aims to please those customers desiring a larger three-hand model from Sinn. The Sinn 836 is priced at $1,790 on a strap and $2,050 on a bracelet. sinn.de
