Introduced earlier this month and with under a week left in our Kickstarter campaign, SCURO watches is now offering new and upgraded Model S Titanium Dive watches. In addition to offering the watches without a date window, there is a new Bead Blasted Model S watch, offering a fresh look on the titanium piece. Though only renderings are available right now, there will be production models soon! There is also the option for an exhibition case back, since we know a lot of you out there would prefer the choice.
SCURO is also upgrading the watches with the addition of new screw-down crowns, lumed bead on the bezel, and a numbered bezel option. We’d also like to introduce SCURO to those of you not yet familiar with us – so please take a look below and learn more!
SCURO Watches is a brand-new company dedicated to creating high-quality dive watches at affordable prices. Our philosophy is to create products that are simple, reliable, and strong, and also have a unique personality with a perfect balance between quality and price. The team is a collaboration of multiple talents in design, product development, and business management. Terence See leads the team with a wealth of experience in business development and product management. We have spent the last year designing, prototyping, and testing our flagship product, the SCURO Model S watch, and it’s set to go into production this fall.
SCURO watches has launched a line of dive watches which feature not only the most cutting-edge materials and top-of-the-line construction, but a modern, versatile design that can easily be worn anywhere from the beach to an upscale restaurant. The SCURO Model S Titanium watch is extremely lightweight, yet stronger than steel and made to last, as it is backed by a one-year warranty. It has all of the details of a luxury watch including 100% titanium casing fitted with anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a Japanese Miyota 9015 caliber movement with a 42-hour power reserve, but because the SCURO business model cuts out the middleman, the price tag carries a substantially smaller figure (early bird specials are starting at just around $225).
The Titanium Case
Titanium is a very popular material choice for high-end watches for three main reasons: First off, it is about five times stronger than steel, making the SCURO watch far more durable than even costlier alternatives on the market; titanium is about half the weight of steel with a density of 4.5g/cc vs. 7.8g/cc for steel; and finally, titanium is highly corrosion resistant. This means no rusting, and it has the added benefit of being hypoallergenic.
The Movement
The SCURO Model S Titanium features a Miyota 9015 caliber movement. This solid, reliable movement has a 42-hour power reserve, 24 jewels, and a classic three-hand display with discreet date display at six o’clock. The choice of the Japanese 9015 is a conscious one that brings with it many benefits. For starters, it’s more than a match for its Swiss counterparts on all levels, from accuracy to reliability. Smooth with a decent power reserve, it’s an automatic movement that can be hand-wound and features a hacking seconds hand for syncing to your chosen time zone. The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 42 hours. Granted, there are movements out there with longer reserves and faster sweeps, but they come at a price and tend to spend more time on the workbench. We simply want the SCURO Model S to spend more time on the wrist. It’s also a nice thin movement, which means we can keep things slim in the case without losing strength.

The SCURO Model S comes in 4 variants, including the new bead-blasted model which we introduced earlier in the post. Here are the original 3 models:

We want our backers to receive their watches as quickly as possible without sacrificing their quality. The watches will be individually inspected once they arrive. There will be full disclosure with our backers, and they will be updated every step along the way. Please check out our Kickstarter here, and thank you! scurowatches.com
