Green dials have been having a bit of a moment for the last couple of years, and a number of brands have been introducing green dial variants of some of their most famous models. As a color for watch dials, it makes sense why a lot of brands are now incorporating green into their respective lineups, as it offers a lot of the same versatility as blue — a definitive touch of color without being quite as in-your-face about it as something like red or orange. Now, adding to the mix of options for fans of green dials are two new Piaget Polo models that bring bright green dials to its signature sports watch collection, with one model in rose gold and another skeletonized version in stainless steel.
As a brand that is equally known for its high jewelry as it is for its watches, Piaget generally produces fairly refined and dressy timepieces, although the manufacturer does have a lineup of sports watches in the form of the Polo collection. Based on the Polo’s signature rounded octagonal shape that is very Aquanaut-esque in its overall appearance with its wide-brushed bezel, the new Piaget Polo watches both feature 42mm cases and include sapphire crystals above their dials paired with sapphire display casebacks. However, while the standard time-and-date model with the 18k rose gold case (ref. G0A47010) measures 9.4mm-thick and offers a depth rating of 100 meters, the skeletonized edition in stainless steel (ref. G0A47008) measures just 6.5mm-thick and only offers users 30 meters of water resistance.
The dial of the rose gold model features the collection’s horizontal grooved texture and is essentially the same dial as what you will find on the other full-size Piaget Polo models, except it is a rich shade of green with rose gold hands and hour markers. The applied rose gold markers and the rounded alpha-shaped hands are both filled with Super-LumiNova for improved low light visibility, while a trapezoid-shaped date window sits at the 6 o’clock location. Meanwhile, the “dial” of the skeletonized stainless steel model is essentially a green metallic ring that contains a minute track with applied angular hour markers. The rest of the green that is visible through the dial side of the watch is actually the color of the mainplate and bridges of the movement, which sits fully visible through both the front and back of the watch. Additionally, unlike the time-and-date model, the skeletonized version omits both the seconds hand and date window, and also forgoes the lume entirely, opting instead for faceted hour markers with brushed surfaces that are paired with skeletonized alpha hands.
Powering the 18k rose gold Piaget Polo model with the green dial is the brand’s in-house Caliber 1110P automatic movement, which runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and offers users a power reserve of approximately 50 hours. Nicely decorated with blued screws, Geneva stripes, and a slate gray rotor with the Piaget coat of arms, the overall design of the movement is very traditional with a standard balance cock and a centrally-mounted oscillating weight. On the other hand, the movement powering the skeletonized version in stainless steel is the in-house Caliber 1200S1 with green-finished bridges and a highly open-worked design that includes a transverse balance bridge, and a micro-rotor layout. Running at a frequency of 21,600vph and offering users a power reserve of approximately 44 hours, the mainplate is finished with a sunburst satin-brushed finish, while the wheels receive a circular and sunburst pattern. Completing the two watches is a green alligator leather strap for the 18k rose gold time-and-date model, while the skeletonized version gets a matching H-link bracelet in stainless steel, along with an extra green alligator leather strap.
At the end of the day, neither of these new Piaget Polo models is an entirely new watch, as both are essentially green variations of existing models that offer different colorways but identical case materials and dimensions. With that in mind, up until this point, the Polo collection has adhered to very traditional dial colors, with blue being the only option beyond the usual assortment of white, black, gray, and silver, and these new green models offer a refreshing new color to the lineup. Official retail prices for the new green Piaget Polo watches will be $30,000 USD for the rose gold model, and $30,900 USD for the stainless steel skeletonized version, and while neither will be a limited edition, the skeletonized model will be a boutique-exclusive.
