One of Oris’ greatest strengths as a watchmaker in recent years is its ongoing effort to create a dive watch for every conceivable enthusiast niche. For everything from clean large diameter modern divers to ISO approved regulator dive watches to vintage inspired bronze cased dive chronographs, Oris has consumers covered, and as part of its 2020 novelties the brand further extends its Aquis dive watch range with two additional models. These two new additions, a new 41.5mm version of the Aquis and a 39.5mm Aquis with a new “oceanic blue” sunburst dial, take the core Aquis style in drastically different directions, adding even further variety to this already diverse model lineup.

The first of the pair, the 41.5mm Aquis, is likely to have a serious impact on Oris’ dive watches in the coming years. For those unfamiliar, the Aquis has been produced up to this point in two separate case styles: the 43.5mm original, and the 39.5mm midsize offering. Both of these numbers are slightly misleading, as the Aquis’ chunky central case and integrated bracelet design cause these watches to generally wear significantly smaller than the numbers suggest. While the 41.5mm stainless steel case is all new, the style still follows the trademark Aquis shape, with thick aggressive crown guards and blocky narrow-set integrated lugs. Like the other sizes in the lineup, the 41.5mm model offers a robust 300 meters of water resistance, and this initial model is topped with a clean and classic black bezel insert. The dial of the 41.5mm Aquis takes one of Oris’ most attractive current offerings, a deep navy blue sunburst, and adapts it to the new medium size. All other classic Aquis dial elements are present here, from the distinctive rounded and lumed alpha hands to the multifaceted applied indices and 6 o’clock date. Oris offers the new 41.5mm Aquis on both its rubber strap, and its aggressively geometric three link bracelet with signed clasp and dive extension.

While not as groundbreaking as a brand new case size, the new addition to the 39.5 mm Aquis lineup might be even more attractive. The most eye-catching new addition is undoubtedly the bright new “oceanic blue” sunburst dial color, a much lighter blue with a greenish touch that calls to mind shallow tropical seas. Just as impressive on closer inspection, however, is the new bezel insert in scratch resistant tungsten. Catching the light in a subtly different way than the stainless steel of the main case, this insert is a low profile but attractive way to set this new offering apart from the pack. This new model will only be available paired with Oris’ oyster style bracelet, which like the 41.5mm variant receives a signed clasp with diver’s extension.

Both new Aquis models are powered by the Sellita-based Oris 733 automatic movement, visible with Oris’ signature red rotor through a display caseback. This movement offers 38 hours of power reserve with a smooth 28,800 bph sweep.

With two new models taking the Aquis line in different directions, Oris’ continuing commitment to creating a truly comprehensive lineup of divers is clear. Both models are available now from authorized dealers, with the 41.5 mm version on rubber retailing for $2,000, while both models on bracelets are available for $2,200.
