As a sportier watch, the Enforcer is water resistant to 100 meters and has a sapphire crystal over the dial (mineral glass over the movement on the rear of the case). There is also the texturing on the crown which is nice. Functionally the Enforcer includes the time with subsidiary seconds (over 6 o’clock), power reserve indicator (under 12 o’clock), and a dial-style date indicator (at 9 o’clock). This version of a date dial is something you don’t see very often as it has a limited number of indicators. Orient made an intentional decision to sacrifice legibility for design. The most simple means of reading the date is a window over a disc with numeric indicators. Dials for the date are harder to read and in this case, you need to count the small indicators. That is going to be a no-go for people who can’t see crisply and who need to read the date regularly. Otherwise it isn’t a deal-breaker as most people don’t need their watch to read the date on a frequent basis.
The hands and sub dials are attractive and easy to read (aside from the date that is). While the seconds hand has no lume, the power reserve indicator does. Inside the watch is the Orient-made caliber 46J43 automatic movement produced in Japan. We aren’t sure, but we don’t think that this movement has hand-winding. Some newer Orient automatics feature hand as well as automatic winding, but since Orient doesn’t specifically mention that the 46J43 movement features both, we are going to assume it is auto-winding only.
With some screws on the brushed steel bezel and a good looking bracelet, the overall package of the Orient Enforcer SEZ07003D0 should appeal to those looking for an affordable automatic with a sporty design that they can wear on a daily basis. We love our four figure (and above) priced Swiss automatics but realize that buying them isn’t in the cards for everyone. In addition to the other great sub-$1000 automatics out there, Orient watches deserve a good look when it comes to bang for your buck. Note that while some watches will still be available on the Orient USA website, for 2013 and beyond, Orient watches will increasingly be found in department stores and other retailers.
The retail price for the new Orient Enforcer SEZ07003D0 is $735. Orient USA would like to extend a special 30% discount for aBlogtoWatch readers if purchased on their site with the discount code: “ablogtowatch” for a limited time. That brings the total price to about $515, which is a pretty nice deal. orientwatchusa.com
