Originally introduced in 2019, the NOMOS Club Sport is the Glashütte-based manufacturer’s dedicated lineup of sports watches that transforms the brand’s entry-level Club into a proper sports model with dive-worthy levels of water resistance. While the collection originally debuted with a 42mm case, NOMOS has more recently created smaller versions of the Club Sport, and for its latest release of 2024, the German manufacturer has announced its most compact sports watch yet. Available with the option of three different dial colors, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 represents a scaled-down version of the brand’s signature sports model, and it offers everything that collectors love about the larger Club Sport watches in a highly versatile 34mm package.
The NOMOS Ahoi and Club Sport are both categorized as sports models; however, while the Ahoi could best be described as a sports-forward expression of the Tangente, the Club Sport is a more robust and capable version of the original NOMOS Club that turns things up a notch with a self-winding movement and additional water resistance. Including the new trio of Club Sport neomatik 34 watches, the NOMOS Club Sport lineup is now available in four different case sizes (34mm, 37mm, 39mm, and 42mm), and while the 42mm Club Sport models feature a date window at 3 o’clock, the three smaller sizes embrace a simplified time-only display, with a pair of centrally-mounted hands and a small running seconds sub-dial on the lower half of their displays. From a core design standpoint, the new NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 models follow in the footsteps of their 37mm and 39mm counterparts, although their proportions have been entirely reworked to complement their reduced size.
Just like their larger siblings, the cases of the new NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 watches are crafted from stainless steel with a mirror-polished finish, and they feature the Club collection’s traditional round profile, with long elegant lugs and a smooth fixed bezel integrated into the architecture of their middle case. With that in mind, the new Club Sport neomatik 34 models represent a significant reduction in size, and their cases measure 34mm in diameter by 8.2mm thick, with a lug width of 18mm and an overall lug-to-lug profile of 41.5mm. Domed sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment on both inner and outer surfaces protect the dials, and NOMOS offers the Club Sport neomatik 34 with the option of either a solid screw-down stainless steel caseback or a display-style caseback with a sapphire window that reveals the watch’s internal self-winding movement.
The relatively large dial-to-case ratio of NOMOS watches provides even the brand’s most compact models with ample presence, and the new Club Sport neomatik 34 models offer highly versatile dimensions that can comfortably accommodate a wide range of wrist sizes. That said, despite their refined and svelte dimensions, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 models are true sports watches, and they offer a generous 200 meters of water resistance, which means they can even be worn while scuba diving. Additionally, unlike the 37mm and 39mm Club Sport models, which feature the same 200-meter depth rating with standard push/pull-style winding crowns, the new Club Sport neomatik 34 watches have signed screw-down crowns that feature a bright red warning ring on their threaded tubes, which serves as an alert to wearers when their crowns are not properly secured to the case.
While the largest NOMOS Club Sport models have fairly traditional dial colors, the smaller versions receive noticeably less conventional hues that give the series a more refined and lighthearted spirit. At the time of launch, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 is available with the option of three dials: gold (ref. 755), rosé (ref. 756), and purple (ref. 757), and each one offers a different expression of the Club’s signature aesthetic. Given that the Club Sport neomatik 34 is the smallest model within the greater Club lineup, NOMOS clearly intends for the new series to appeal to both male and female buyers, and this is reflected in the brand’s choice of dial colors. NOMOS is an expert when it comes to the intentional use of color, and while all three dials for the Club Sport neomatik 34 offer a distinctly gentle aesthetic, none are so overtly feminine that they will entirely alienate men collectors who want a robust NOMOS sports watch in a compact overall package.
The case architecture of the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 is significantly more robust than what is used for the brand’s standard Club models, although the dials fitted to the series follow the same fundamental design and layout, with large Arabic numeral hour markers, polished pencil-shaped hands, and a small running seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Regardless of color, all three dials for the Club Sport neomatik 34 feature a radial sunburst pattern across their surfaces, while their recessed running seconds registers are adorned with a subtle concentric circular pattern to create additional texture and depth. Just as you would expect from a proper sports watch, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 features a luminous display for increased low-light visibility, and its centrally-mounted hands and hour markers are finished with white Super-LumiNova that emits a blue-colored glow in the dark.
Similar to its 37mm and 39mm siblings, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 is powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber DUW 3001 automatic movement, which runs at a frequency of 21,600vph (3 Hz) with a power reserve of approximately 43 hours. Manufactured by NOMOS in Glashütte, Germany, the 37-jewel Cal. DUW 3001 is adjusted to six positions, and it is equipped with the brand’s proprietary Swing System escapement and DUW regulation system. At just 3.2mm thick, the Cal. DUW 3001 is the secret behind the Club Sport’s notably thin case profile, and its traditionally German three-quarter plate structure is adorned with perlage, Glashütte ribbing, and heat-tempered blue screws. The Club Sport neomatik 34 represents the smallest NOMOS watch yet to be powered by the Cal. DUW 3001, and it brings the practicality of a self-winding movement to an even wider range of NOMOS owners.
Although the new NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 watches feature the same 18mm lug width as the larger 37mm Club Sport, the proportions of their three-link stainless steel bracelets have been completely reworked to better suit their reduced dimensions. Tapering from 18mm at the lugs down to 16mm on the underside of the wrist, the bracelet for the Club Sport neomatik 34 consists of proportionally smaller links than what can be found on its larger siblings; however, it features the same style of finishing with brushed sides, high-polished centers, and a mirror-polished clasp that operates with a double push-button release. Along with having integrated quick-release springbars at the end-links, NOMOS includes an additional quick-release springbar inside the clasp, and this provides owners with easy access to the three micro-adjustment sizing holes that would normally only be accessible with a springbar tool.
The new NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 watches make zero sacrifices when it comes to performance and durability, although their smaller case sizes correspond with a slightly lower price than their larger siblings. At $3,060 USD when purchased with a solid caseback or $3,360 USD when buyers opt for the display-caseback configuration, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 is both the smallest and least expensive model from the current Club Sport lineup, although it still offers all of the same dive-ready levels of water resistance and the brand’s in-house automatic movement. Thin enough to slip under a cuff yet rugged enough to accompany you scuba diving, the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34 exists as a refreshing reprieve from chunky overbuilt sports watches, and it aims to be an elegant yet durable timekeeping companion that can stand up to everything from everyday wear to demanding environments.
