Introducing Orion Neomatik 41 date midnight blue and Orion Neomatik 41 date olive gold, the two latest automatic timepieces from NOMOS Glashütte. These mechanical wristwatches feature new dials in subtly elegant shades that are perfect for fall—and all year round. At 41 millimeters in diameter and incredibly slender, the Nomos Orion Neomatik are tailor-made to suit larger wrists and slip under a shirt cuff.
Orion, one of NOMOS’ bestselling watch models, has been on the market since 1992. The epitome of the maxim that “less is more,” its design is entirely comprised of gentle curves and precisely-placed lines. Now a date window has been integrated into the classic Orion model at three o’clock. Thanks to the proportions of the automatic movement within, DUW 6101, it can be located right at the edge of the dial—creating a harmonious overall impression. In this midnight blue version, subtle accents in gold add an extra touch of elegance.
The beautifully curved case of the Nomos Orion can accommodate the new Neomatik date caliber, DUW 6101, without compromising its slimline proportions. That is because—at only 3.6 millimeters in height—this proprietary movement is extremely thin. Instead of adding the date mechanism on top of the movement, as is usually the case in modular caliber construction, the R&D department at NOMOS Glashütte have integrated it into the existing caliber. Innovations of this kind are only possible thanks to the wealth of watchmaking knowledge that NOMOS Glashütte has acquired over years of in-house caliber production. This new date mechanism is also particularly user-friendly, with a “quick set” feature that allows the wearer to adjust the date either forwards or backwards with only a half-turn of the crown.
The two new Nomos Orion Neomatikl models in olive gold and midnight blue are part of the Update series, a collection of NOMOS watches powered by the Neomatik date caliber. This innovative automatic movement, also known as DUW 6101, gives the NOMOS design team full freedom to create the optimal display for each watch model. Tangente Updat, for example, pictured left, features a playful date ring around the edge of the dial—highlighting the current date with two red markers. Close collaboration between the NOMOS designers and watchmakers allow creative possibilities to be fully explored, resulting in a type of date display that is entirely unique to NOMOS Glashütte.
All thirteen of the mechanical movements within NOMOS timepieces are designed and made in-house in Glashütte, Germany. This includes the latest innovation, DUW 6101, which at work in the Update series and these two new versions of the Nomos Orion Neomatik. The embellishment “NOMOS Glashütte Deutsche Uhrenwerke” on the movement’s bidirectional rotor highlights the company’s credentials as an independent movement producer. It is extremely rare for a watch brand to develop its own calibers in-house; NOMOS Glashütte is one of only around 20 companies worldwide to do so.
The Nomos Orion Neomatik 41 date midnight blue and Orion Neomatik 41 date olive gold are both priced at $4,350 and are available now on nomos-glashuette.com.
