As a brand, Seiko is hardly a stranger to collaborations and limited-edition models, and as the most affordable collection in Seiko’s modern lineup, the Seiko 5 series frequently serves as the platform for these various thematic timepieces. As part of the brand’s ongoing celebrations for the 55th anniversary of its Seiko 5 Sports collection, the Japanese watch manufacturer has collaborated with the comic franchise Peanuts to create a duo of limited-edition models based on the current generation of its Seiko 5 Sports collection and feature a number of design elements that are inspired by the works of Charles Schulz.

The first of the two Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Peanuts models is the SRPK25, which is based upon the midsize version of the diver-style Seiko 5 Sports series, which itself is essentially a consumer-oriented version of the discontinued SKX dive watches that were produced for years and were a favorite among many collectors. The case is crafted from stainless steel and measures 38mm in diameter by 12.1mm-thick, with 20mm lugs and an overall lug-to-lug profile of 44.2mm. The dial fitted to the SRPK25 is white and depicts Snoopy with a surfboard, while the reverse side of the semi-transparent caseback also features Snoopy, although this time he is on top of the surfboard and riding a wave. A flat Hardlex crystal sits above a dial, and it is surrounded by a unidirectional rotating bezel, which is fitted with a black aluminum insert that showcases a distinct font for the numerals that has been taken from the famous Peanuts comics.

The other Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Peanuts watch is the SRPK27, which is the field watch version that features a simple round case with a smooth fixed bezel that measures 36.4mm in diameter by 12.5mm-thick, with 18mm lugs and a lug-to-lug profile of 44.4mm. The Hardlex crystal fitted to the SRPK27 is slightly domed rather than flat, and the white dial features Snoopy with his ears rotating like helicopter blades, along with numerals in a font that is inspired by Charles Schulz’s handwriting from the Peanuts comics. Snoopy’s friend Woodstock joins him on the dial of the SRPK27, and the caseback of the watch features Woodstock as a paratrooper with a parachute deployed above his head. Both of the new Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Peanuts watches feature 100 meters of water resistance along with lugs that have drilled holes to permit easy strap changes, and both the SRPK25 and SRPK27 also feature crowns that are signed with Snoopy’s paw print.

The duo of new Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Peanuts models are powered by the same Caliber 4R36 automatic movement, which displays both the date of the month and the day of the week while running at a frequency of 21,600vph (3 Hz) with a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. The Cal. 4R36 is the same movement that can be found inside the standard-production Seiko 5 Sports watches, and it is also the same caliber that is used to power countless other timepieces when sold to third-party brands as the Cal. NH36. While the diver-style SRPK25 is fitted with a gray and white nylon NATO strap, the SRPK27 field watch receives a black leather strap, and both strap options for the new limited-edition Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Peanuts models are completed by stainless steel pin buckles that are signed with the Seiko logo.

Both of the new Seiko 5 Sports 55th Anniversary Peanuts models are going to be produced as limited editions, with a total of 8,900 examples for the diver-style SRPK25 and 6,500 examples for the SRPK27 field watch. Additionally, while the diver-style SRPK25 is accompanied by an official retail price of $425 USD, the field watch SRPK27 comes in slightly below it at $400 USD due to its less involved case design. Similarly, rather than the standard Seiko 5 packaging, both limited-edition models come in a thematic presentation box that features a Peanuts comic strip printed along the interior of the lid, and the new duo of models will be available from select Seiko retailers starting in June/July 2023.
