At this point, titanium is just about everywhere, from micros to Rolex to F.P. Journe. Roger Dubuis has been playing with titanium in varying ways for a few years. While the brand typically goes absolutely wild with things, it does have a few models in its catalog that are more restrained, at least by its own standards. There are scant solid dials to find, but you can discover a few single-metal, one-color watches if you really want to find them. The search just got easier, with the brand introducing the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon for Watches and Wonders 2024.
The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon features a titanium 42mm in the striking style of the brand, which sees strong angles and a blend of polished and brushed finishing. While RD has previously offered this same model in a dark grey DLC titanium, this is the first time it has been offered in regular Grade 5 titanium and with a matching titanium bracelet. The bracelet is easily changed with a quick-release button and features a folding clasp. The case has a sapphire crystal surrounded by the brand’s signature notched bezel. It’s equipped with 100m water resistance.
As with almost every Roger Dubuis, the dial is hardly there, letting the movement do most of the talking. The time is displayed with sharp, skeletonized hands and a peripherally mounted chapter ring with polished hour markers. The 8 o’clock flying tourbillon features a lower cage made of titanium to reinforce the aesthetic and also counts out the seconds with a small black hand. The movement’s bridge forms a striking star, another signature of RD watches.
The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon is powered by the in-house RD512SQ that has been used in previous models. This tourbillon movement is hand-wound, with a 72-hour power reserve at 21,600 vph. This should be more than ample for regular wear, especially for a manual wind watch that can be more laborious to power. As with all of Roger Dubuis’ watches, this one is marked with the Geneva Seal, a mark of the watch meeting strict quality standards.
This marks the second all-titanium release in as many years from Roger Dubuis. To be more specific, it’s the second watch that is only titanium without any coloring or bold highlights. That’s off-brand for Roger Dubuis, but it seems to work well as a more palatable offering for those who may love the design but want something a bit quieter from the brand. The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon is priced at $151,000 USD For more information, please visit the Roger Dubuis website.
