As the summer season quickly approaches, watch fans everywhere will be deciding which pieces will be in their rotation for the months of sun and fun. Oris has put up a duo of dive watches for your consideration, inspired by the fruit most associated with long and hot days; say hello to the brand new Oris Aquis Date “Taste of Summer” Watermelon watches in juicy shades of red and green that will be produced for a limited time.
At Watches & Wonders 2024, Oris unveiled the newest generation of the Aquis, its flagship dive watch collection. The two new watermelon-inspired colorways follow the same design; they sport 41.50mm steel cases that are 12.9mm thick and water-resistant to 300 meters. The unidirectional rotating steel bezel is home to a white ceramic insert, punctuated with a 60-minute scale colored in the same shade as the dial.
Oris is offering the “Taste of Summer” Aquis watches in red and green, both in a vibrant sunburst finish. The date windows at 6 o’clock aren’t color-matched but given all the white details throughout the watches, they don’t look out of place. The applied shield-like indices and Alpha-style hands at the center benefit from Super-LumiNova for low-light legibility.
Though no official caseback pictures have been supplied, they are furnished with mineral glass windows for a view of the Sellita-based Oris 733 automatic movements inside. Caliber 733, which powers the hour, minute, stop-second hands, and instantaneous date window, operates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz) and supplies the watermelon-themed divers with 38 hours of power reserve.
The watches are paired with three-link steel bracelets that taper more dramatically than previous generations from the 22mm width at the lugs to the steel folding clasps. Like the new-gen Aquis models released earlier this year, the bracelets include broader center brushed links, nestled between polished outer links.
