Expanding upon its Colors of TOP GUN ceramic collection launched in 2022, IWC introduces the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Woodland watch in a forest green hue. In case you’re not familiar with the patented Timezoner dual time zone complication, it allows the wearer to easily alternate between different time zones by simply pressing down and turning the rotating bezel until the desired time zone reaches the 12 o’clock position. The hour hand 24-hour display will then follow, moving in one-hour jumps either forward or backward. While the practical Timezoner function is certainly not new to the IWC catalog (it joined in 2016), this is the first time we’ve seen it in a colored ceramic case.
The new IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Woodland features a green ceramic case that measures 46mm in diameter and 15.1mm thick, which is large but in line with many of IWC’s watches. According to the brand, the Woodland green tone (a color made in collaboration with Pantone) is inspired by the flight suits and uniforms worn by pilots in the TOPGUN flight school (think Maverick’s jumpsuit) as well as the vast forest landscapes they fly over. This is the second “Woodland” IWC watch so far; for more on the first, read Sean Lorentzen’s article, IWC Unveils Limited-Production Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Lake Tahoe” And Edition “Woodland.”
The Timezoner bezel is also made of green ceramic. IWC opted to use, via elaborate engineering processes, the same green tone for the dial, hands, and rubber strap to achieve a stealthy monochromatic vibe. Even the lume color coordinates. The dial is home to a trio of hands at the center, the 24-hour display under 12, and a date window at 3 o’clock. And yes, the disks of both apertures are color-matched. There is a smattering of non-green components on the watch, however, including the case ring and crown, both of which are fashioned from matte black Ceratanium. A proprietary material, Ceratanium combines the lightness and toughness of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic. The green rubber strap with textile inlay is additionally fitted with a Ceratanium pin buckle. Breaking up the green face slightly are the touches of red on the dial (the TIMEZONER inscription and the 24-hour display hour) and the bezel (UTC), but all in all, this Woodland watch is very military green, indeed.
Like the front, the back of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Woodland is furnished with a sapphire crystal. This gives us a view of the IWC-manufactured Caliber 82760 automatic movement. Operating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), the movement includes a Pellaton winding system reinforced with ceramic components, supplying the watch with 60 hours of power reserve.
IWC’s relationship with TOPGUN, officially known as the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, began in 2007 and we’ve seen plenty of Pilot’s Watch models dedicated to the Navy’s elite fighter weapons school since then. With its military green colorway and travel-friendly complication, this new Woodland Timezoner model is a worthy addition to the IWC Top Gun fleet. Available through selected IWC boutiques, the new Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Top Gun Woodland is priced at $17,400 USD. For more information, please visit the brand’s website.
