Originally founded in 2000 by the famous watch designer Gérald Genta, Gerald Charles is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year in 2025. To kick off its quarter-century festivities, the Swiss brand has unveiled two new additions to its flagship Maestro collection. The first new timepiece is a limited-edition version of the Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon that showcases a hand-hammered dial made from solid 18k white gold. However, the second of the new releases represents the first standard-production Maestro model to feature a stone dial. The Gerald Charles Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli is an elevated rendition of the standard time-and-date Maestro that pays tribute to Gerald Genta’s personal favorite stone.

The first of the two new timepieces is the Gerald Charles Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon White Gold (ref. GC9.0-A-RT-WG), and it is the same watch as the original Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon but with a hand-hammered dial made from 18k white gold instead of rose gold like on the inaugural version. Just like its sibling, the multi-component case of the watch is crafted from 316L stainless steel, although its bezel is made from grade 5 titanium with a blue Colormix finish to further highlight its asymmetric profile and increase its resistance to scratches. Dimensions for the new Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon White Gold remain the same at 39mm in diameter by 9mm thick, with 22mm lugs that extend to create an overall lug-to-lug profile of 41.7mm, and just like other models from the series, flat sapphire crystals are fitted to either side of the watch, while a signed screw-down crown at 3 o’clock helps guarantee 100 meters of water resistance.

The dial fitted to the Gerald Charles Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon White Gold follows the same fundamental design as its rose gold sibling with a hand-hammered surface, a framed aperture for the 60-second flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, and large Roman numerals hour markers at the remaining three cardinal points. The indexes, tourbillon frame, and the plate containing the brand’s logo are all separately applied elements, and due to the hand-made nature of the dial and the skill required to create its unique hammered finish, Gerald Charles is only able to produce two examples of the Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon White Gold per month. On this latest version, the entire dial is crafted from untreated 18k white gold, and its hands and hour markers feature blue frames filled with white Super-LumiNova to create an alternate expression of the model that originally debuted last year.

Internally, the Gerald Charles Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon White Gold is identical to its rose gold counterpart, and residing below its hand-hammered dial is the brand’s Caliber 9.0 automatic movement movement (which was previously listed as the Ref. GCA 3024/12 and appears to have recently been renamed). Running at a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) with a power reserve of approximately 50 hours, the 33-jewel Gerald Charles Cal. 9.0 movement consists of 196 individual components, and it features a honeycomb-pattern skeletonized rotor crafted from solid 22k rose gold, along with a grade 5 titanium tourbillon cage mounted on an 18k yellow gold bridge. Lastly fitted to the lugs of the new white gold Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon is a matte blue alligator leather strap that is hand-stitched and completed by a signed stainless steel folding clasp.

The second model from this latest duo of new releases is the Gerald Charles Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli (ref. GC2.0-SSPS-LS-RSPN), and it is essentially the same watch as the standard three-handed Maestro 2.0 models but with a blue-finished bezel and a stone dial made from a slice of natural lapis lazuli. Slightly thinner than its tourbillon-equipped siblings, the 35-component stainless steel case of the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli measures 39mm in diameter by 8.7mm thick, with 22mm lugs and an overall lug-to-lug profile of 41.7mm. Just like other models from the Maestro collection, flat sapphire crystals are fitted to either side of the watch, while water resistance comes in at 100 meters; however, its unlike the Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon models that use titanium for their bezels, the blue Colormix-finished bezel on the Gerald Charles Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli is crafted from 316L stainless steel.

Gerald Charles currently offers a blue sunburst dial among its time-and-date Maestro 2.0 models, although it is exclusively fitted to the solid 18k gold version, and this helps to provide the new Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli with a distinct aesthetic identity among the series. The overall design of the dial follows in the footsteps of other models from the collection, with applied luminous hour markers, a railroad-style minute track, and a framed date window at 6 o’clock. However, rather than being adorned with a sunburst finish, the surface of the dial is formed by a slice of natural lapis lazuli that measures just 0.55mm thick. Tiny holes must be drilled through the stone in order to accommodate the hands, hour markers, and date window; however, it must also be shaped to the asymmetric profile of the Maestro’s case, and this results in an incredibly high rejection rate, with less than a third of the lapis lazuli slices surviving the production process.

Aside from its lapis lazuli stone dial and blue-finished bezel, the Gerald Charles Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli otherwise follows in the footsteps of the standard three-handed models, and it is powered by the brand’s Caliber 2.0 automatic movement (previously listed as the Ref. GCA3002), which runs at a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) with a power reserve of 50 hours. The 28-jewel Gerald Charles Cal. 2.0 movement consists of 189 individual components, and on the new Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli, the movement’s gold-plated skeletonized rotor is engraved with the brand’s 25th anniversary logo. Aside from the two Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon watches (which are fitted with alligator leather straps), all of Gerald Charles’ various other Maestro models are paired with textured rubber straps, and this latest version receives a dark blue strap to match the hue of its lapis stone dial.

When it comes to pricing, both of these new watches from Gerald Charles feature premium handcrafted dials, and both cost a solid chunk of change more than their standard-dial counterparts. Just like its sibling fitted with a hand-hammered rose gold dial, the new Gerald Charles Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon White Gold (ref. GC9.0-A-RT-WG) will be produced as a limited edition of 50 pieces, and it will cost the same as its rose gold counterpart with an official retail price of $115,700 USD. Meanwhile, the Gerald CharlesMaestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli (ref. GC2.0-SSPS-LS-RSPN) will be priced at $21,900 USD, and despite joining the collection as a core-catalog model, availability will be inherently limited by the hand-made nature of its dial, and the naturally occurring material used in its construction.
