The classic Casio G-Shock 5600 series has been produced in a countless variety of different colorways and configurations throughout the years, and in addition to being the silhouette of the very first G-Shock watch from 1983, the fan-favorite 5600 series also frequently serves as the basis for various limited editions and collaborations. As part of the ongoing celebrations surrounding the 40th anniversary of the G-Shock, Casio has teamed up with the Kentucky-based sneaker and streetwear boutique Oneness to create a limited edition version of the 5600 series as its latest new release of 2023. Featuring a translucent amber-colored bezel and strap, the new G-Shock x Oneness DW5600ONS234 offers a fresh take on this classic digital design, and it gets its aesthetic inspiration from the world of Kentucky bourbon.
Just like all entry-level versions of the iconic 5600 series, the new G-Shock x Oneness DW5600ONS234 is constructed out of resin with a mineral glass crystal and a stainless steel caseback. Similarly, the caseback is secured by four small screws, and the DW5600ONS234 measures the standard 43.8mm in diameter by 13.5mm-thick, with an overall lug-to-lug profile of 48.9mm. Just like all Casio G-Shock watches, water resistance for the G-Shock x Oneness DW5600ONS234 comes in at 200 meters, although the outer bezel is made from transparent orange resin, while the caseback features an engraving of the Oneness logo.
The translucent orange resin case of the new G-Shock x Oneness DW5600ONS234 is intended to be reminiscent of the rich warm color of Kentucky bourbon, and this same colorway extends onto the strap of the watch. With that in mind, rather than being a single color, the strap features a gradient effect that changes from golden amber to deep reddish brown to represent the appearance of a glass of bourbon. Additionally, to further complement the warm colorway of this watch, the stainless steel buttons and pin buckle are given a gold ion-plated finish. As a final nod to the collaboration, the dial plate surrounding the inverted red LCD screen features the Oneness logo, along with the quote “What Are You Waiting On” printed on the lower portion of its gold-colored surface.
Powering the new G-Shock x Oneness DW5600ONS234 is Module No. 3229, which is one of the brand’s entry-level digital movements that can be found inside a number of different 5600 series watches. Running on a single CR2016 battery cell, Casio Module No. 3229 offers all of the standard G-Shock features such as a stopwatch, countdown timer, alarm, automatic calendar (until the year 2099), and an electro-luminescent backlight. Accuracy for this module is rated at +/-15 seconds per month, and due to the lightweight resin structure of its case and strap, the entire watch weighs a total of just 53 grams.
Sold as a collector’s set that includes a Oneness-branded display stand, along with a fabric bag and box that recalls the packaging of premium bottles of Kentucky bourbon, the G-Shock x Oneness DW5600ONS234 is accompanied by an official retail price of $130 USD. Additionally, while it has explicitly been stated that this bourbon-inspired model will be produced as a limited edition, Casio has not disclosed a specific number of examples, and the watch will be available from both Oneness boutiques and the official G-Shock website. While this new model is functionally identical to the standard entry-level 5600 series, its unique appearance makes it perfect for either fans of Oneness or simply those who enjoy Kentucky bourbon.
