As its latest new release of 2023, Casio has teamed up with Coca-Cola to create a duo of limited edition G-Shock watches that are inspired by the iconic American soda company. The pair of new collaboration pieces are based upon two of Casio’s most famous G-Shock silhouettes of all time (the DW5600 and the DW6900), and they both receive a full Coca-Cola-themed aesthetic overhaul, with the DW5600 variant taking its visual inspiration from the soda company’s instantly-recognizable white and red logo, while the DW6900 version features a translucent design that recalls the appearance of Coca-Cola’s famous green-tinted glass bottles.
The first of the two watches is the Casio G-Shock x Coca-Cola DW5600CC23-4, which is the version based upon the original “square” G-Shock case silhouette from 1983. While there are countless different iterations of this same general design, the new Coke-themed DW5600CC23-4 uses the standard entry-level version for its foundation, which means that it features a resin case, a mineral glass crystal, four buttons for controlling its various functions, and a stainless steel caseback secured by four small screws. Similarly, dimensions and specs are the same as other G-Shock models based upon the DW5600 platform, and the watch measures 43.8mm in diameter by 13.5mm thick, with an overall lug-to-lug profile of 48.9mm and 200 meters of water resistance.
Where the new Casio G-Shock x Coca-Cola DW5600CC23-4 differs from its siblings is when it comes to its colors and aesthetics. The strap and bezel are both made from bright red resin with white text and a large white Coca-Cola logo printed on the 12 o’clock side, while the dial plate surrounding the display is white with the Coca-Cola logo printed in red at the top, and Casio’s logo in black appearing below the LCD screen. Additionally, while the new G-Shock DW5600CC23-4 is powered by the same Module No. 3229 as its entry-level “square” siblings and features identical functionality including a stopwatch, alarm, countdown timer, automatic calendar, and backlight, this new soda-themed collaboration model is paired with an inverted red LCD screen to maintain its Coca-Cola logo-inspired colorway.
The second of the two models is the Casio G-Shock x Coca-Cola DW6900CC23-3, which is a variation of the popular DW6900 series that features a design inspired by the soda brand’s signature green glass bottles. Similar to its red and white sibling from this new Coca-Cola-themed duo, the DW6900CC23-3 is based upon the standard version of this popular G-Shock silhouette, and so it features the same type of construction with a resin case, a rubber strap, a mineral glass crystal, a stainless steel caseback secured by four small screws, and 200 meters of water resistance. Additionally, the DW6900CC23-3 runs on Module No. 3230, which means that it offers the same functionality as the module inside its red and white Coke-themed sibling, although its electro-luminescent backlight is activated by a fifth button located below the display, rather than by one of the four buttons on the side of the case.
While the general design and functionality of the Casio G-Shock x Coca-Cola DW6900CC23-3 is largely identical to its standard-production siblings, its aesthetics are inspired by the appearance of Coca-Cola’s original green-tinted glass bottles. Both the bezel and strap are constructed from translucent green resin that recalls the unique hue of a Coke bottle, while the text on the bezel and the Coca-Cola logo on the strap keeper are both printed in white — just like the logo on a bottle of Coke. While the LCD screen is the standard black-on-gray variety, the dial plate surrounding it is white with the Coca-Cola logo printed in red at the very top, and when the backlight is activated, the display glows green with a red Coke bottle silhouette appearing in the center. Additionally, both the bottle-inspired DW6900CC23-3 and its red and white “square” sibling feature casebacks that swap out the standard G-Shock insignia for the iconic soda company’s logo.
Both of the new Casio G-Shock x Coca-Cola watches will come with special red and white Coca-Cola-themed packaging, and despite their differences, the “square” DW5600CC23-4 and the bottle-inspired DW6900CC23-3 are both accompanied by the exact same official retail price of $160 USD. Additionally, while it has explicitly been stated that these new Coca-Cola x G-Shock watches will be produced as limited editions, no mention has been made about there being a specific fixed quantity, although it is relatively safe to assume that just like other G-Shock collaborations that have followed a similar limited-edition format, both these new Coca-Cola models will be rather fleeting offerings in the brand’s catalog.
