Despite being a thoroughly Swiss brand, Breitling caters to the American market arguably more than any of the other big-name luxury manufacturers. The company produces multiple watches each year that are inspired by everything from NFL teams to classic Detroit-built muscle cars. For its latest release of 2024, Breitling is continuing its tradition of celebrating Americana by creating a new two-tone version of the Navitimer that will be produced as a market-exclusive limited edition of 300 examples. In addition to having a properly American-sized 46mm case, the new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition features a blue dial with red accents, and it will be exclusively sold within the United States and Canada.
In short, the new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition (ref. UB01372A1C1P1) is essentially the blue-dial version of the Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 U.S. Limited Edition that was released last year in 2023. Both models are 46mm two-tone versions of the Navitimer Chronograph that pair stainless steel cases with 18k red gold bezels, and both are also market-exclusive limited editions of 300 pieces. Swap out the anthracite gray dial of last year’s model for a blue one, and expand its availability to both the United States and Canada (rather than just the U.S.) and you pretty much have the idea behind this new model. With that in mind, last year’s American-exclusive Navitimer is no longer available, which means that this latest release is the only two-tone Navitimer Chronograph in Breitling’s current lineup.
Offering identical dimensions to other Navitimer 46 models, the new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition measures 46mm in diameter by 13.95mm thick, with a lug width of 24mm and an overall lug-to-lug profile of 51.88mm. Just like its core-collection siblings, a domed sapphire crystal (with anti-reflective treatment) protects the dial, while the reverse side of the watch receives a display-style caseback, and water resistance for the new Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition comes in at the collection’s standard 30 meters to protect against incidental contact. However, while the middle case, caseback, winding crown, and pump-style chronograph pushers are all made from stainless steel, the bezel of the watch is crafted from solid 18k red gold.
The dial and hands fitted to the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition offer a similar colorway to what can be found on other American-themed models that the brand has recently put forward, such as last year’s Super Chronomat B01 44 U.S. Limited Edition and the Chronomat B01 42 Super Bowl LVIII Edition that debuted earlier this year in 2024. Set against the dial’s deep blue surface are a trio of black-finished chronograph registers, along with a date window carefully integrated into the bottom sub-dial at 6 o’clock. Additionally, small splashes of bright red appear on the seconds hand and slide rule bezel, and while the hands and hour markers offer the same fundamental style as what exists on other Navitimer watches, they now appear in red gold to help create the model’s signature two-tone appearance.
Powering the new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition is the brand’s manufacture Caliber B01 automatic chronograph movement, which can also be found inside the standard-production versions of the model. Running at a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, the 47-jewel Breitling Cal. B01 is a COSC-certified chronometer that operates with a column wheel and a vertical clutch, and it is frequently considered to be one of the best mass-produced chronograph movements within the industry. While Breitling now uses the Caliber B01 inside several of its collections, the version fitted to the Navitimer is slightly more elaborately decorated compared to what can be found inside its less expensive Top Time and Avenger models, and it is adorned with Geneva stripes on its upper bridges and rotor, rather than having standard brushed surfaces.
Fitted to the lugs of the new Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition is a black two-piece strap made from alligator leather, which appears to be identical to the other leather straps that can be found throughout the modern Navitimer lineup. Tapering from 24mm at the lugs down to 20mm on the underside of the wrist, the strap features white contrast stitching running down its sides, while the lining appears in Brietling’s signature shade of bright yellow. Additionally, just like the leather straps found on other current-production Navitimer models, the black alligator leather strap fitted to the Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition is completed by a stainless steel deployant clasp that operates with a double push-button release and is signed with Breitling’s logo.
While Breitling produces several time-only Navitmer models that offer a two-tone aesthetic with stainless steel and red gold, this configuration is notably absent from the chronograph-equipped side of the collection. Due to its use of 18k red gold, the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 North American Limited Edition is noticeably more expensive than its stainless steel counterparts, and the new market-exclusive model is accompanied by an official retail price of $12,500 USD (or $15,650 CAD when purchased in Canada). Although this is almost half the price of what Breitling charges for its solid gold Navitimer 46 models, it is also nearly $3k more than a standard stainless steel Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46, and there will inevitably be some who feel that the additional premium is slightly steep, especially considering the relatively limited amount of gold that is used in its construction.
