Remember Oris‘s surprise launch of the Divers Sixty-Five at Baselworld this past March? In response to positive accolades from press and buyers alike, Oris has seen fit to expand the line with a new Divers Sixty-Five model featuring a beautifully retro-toned grey and blue dial. With a somewhat softer appeal than its black-dialed sibling, this new Oris Divers Sixty-Five is inspired by the luxurious vacation scene surrounding the fashionable French town of Deauville.
Aside from the new dial coloring, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five “Deauville” is unchanged from the original version, retaining the same 40mm steel case, black dive bezel, screw down crown, and green luminous markers. With 100m water resistance, the case back is steel, and the new Oris Divers Sixty-Five “Deauville” sports the same eye-catching bubble-curved sapphire crystal. I currently have a black dialed Oris Divers Sixty-Five in for review, and the crystal is great: it reflects light almost elusively at its outer curve and functions as a magnifier for the entire dial, easily adding to the charm and wrist presence of this already very appealing casual diver’s watch.
Inside, we get the same Oris 733 movement, which is based on the Sellita SW200 and offers both time and a date display at six. The Oris Divers Sixty-Five is an oddball for Oris, whose dive watches are generally large, over-engineered and very much objects for professional divers.
In contrast, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five is more of a laid back vacation diver’s watch, especially in this light grey, Deauville blue, and pale-green color scheme. For the guy or gal who wears a conservative dress watch all week at the office, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five is jeans-and-a-t-shirt-ready and begging to be matched with a swimsuit the next time you head south.
The 40mm sizing is excellent, and the included rubber strap is soft, comfy, and a welcome nod to the tropical straps common to the early days of diving. With the same 1750 CHF list price as the black model, Oris has added a welcome color option to an already appealing and well-priced package that is essentially a vacation for your wrist. oris.ch
