Welcome back to an original aBlogtoWatch feature, “My First Grail Watch”. In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after.
aBlogtoWatch (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?
Roland G. Murphy (RGM): I am the man and watchmaker behind RGM Watch.
ABTW: What was your first grail watch?
RGM: It was a Patek 3970 back in the 1980s. I did get one used that needed work, I repaired it and sold it back in the early 90’s.
ABTW: Was there ever a time in your life when you could afford it?
RGM: Yea, in the early 1990s.
ABTW: What did you like so much about the watch?
RGM: The complications and the classic look.
ABTW: Did you ever get it?
RGM: For a while, and then sold it.
Editor’s Note: Roland also referenced their older RGM 103R model, which he believes took the 3970 design and made it even grander.
[Update: July 8, 2014 – While we value the quality of their product, in light of recent events, aBlogtoWatch will no longer cover RGM products and cannot endorse RGM as a company. – Ed. ] What’s This?
