Say “1Tausend” out loud and you have an instant German accent when saying “one thousand.” This is not only the name of the new Limes (pronounced “lee-mez”) diving watch, but also how deep it can resist water pressure. Are you going to be diving that deep? No, but Germans like to brag about their fortitude, and now so can you. With a very “Sinn” like styling, you can have a highly refined and functional diving watch for a fair price.
Limes does something special among smaller watch makers, and that is make their own cases (which are usually sourced out). This gives them the ability to ensure high quality and release some interesting designs. The Endurance 1Tausend Diver Watch has an unmistakable look, even though it shares the appeal of many modern German diving watches. The face is well done providing each piece of numeric information without taking away from simple legibility. Limes does this by placing the hour, minute, and luminous hour indicator all in the same liner space. The three elements taper and form one cohesive shape, rather than confusing your eyes when looking at it. This is a fabulous aspect of the watch.
The rotating bezel is also very well done. Two sections fit together to provide a dual natured bezel. One with indicators and one with actual numbers. This seems to be a running theme with the watch; giving the user options when reading it. The large “12” balances out the watch in an important way. This gives your mind an instant frame of reference for telling the time no matter what direction you are looking at the face from.
Inside is a workhorse ETA 2824-2 automatic movement that has powered a legion of diving watches successfully. Limes encases the movement in the super hard Ickler case with a screw down back. The case surfaces are matte finished for that masculine, technical look. Choosing from a rubber strap or metal bracelet, the Limes Endurance 1Tausend Diver will fit as you please it to. Both straps offer screwed in lug pins.
Going along with my appreciation for the Limes brand in general, I like the Endurance 1Tausend Diver watch for its simplicity in sophisticated operation, and high quality construction. Look for them soon, and expect a fair price of under $2,000 if my calculations are correct.
