Born from a collaboration with one of the brand’s exclusive retailers in Chicago, the Laurent Ferrier Swiss FineTiming Limited Edition Galet Square Vintage America I watch is a classically handsome piece with the distinctive Galet Square look that’s immediately recognizable. This piece, with its vintage styling, has a dial that is sure to catch the eye, so let’s take a closer look at the product of this joint venture with Swiss FineTiming.
The Galet Square is a cushion-shaped piece measuring in at 41mm x 41mm in stainless steel with a 30-meter water resistance. This two-tone steel beauty features lugs redesigned especially for the collaboration with Swiss FineTiming. Looking to the dial, you will notice the outer dial features a circular, satin-brushed finish that contrasts with the inner-dial’s vertical-brushed visage.
The elevated chapter ring features hand-polished cabochon cut touches in black nickel gold that echo Ferrier’s “drop-shaped” hour markers. Painted Arabic numerals round out the dial with a dash of blue while a small seconds subdial rests at 6 o’clock. Ruthenium-treated gold hour and minute hands complete the package with a unique “assegai” shape, and since this is a limited edition of 10 pieces, each watch is numbered on the back of the case.
The Galet Square runs on Laurent Ferrier’s self-winding in-house FBN Calibre 229.01. Housing a silicon escapement and containing 35 jewels, the 229.01 features a pawl-fitted micro-rotor and offers a 72-hour power reserve. The bridges are outfitted with a Côtes de Genève pattern and since the escapement contains a what Laurent Ferrier calls a “double direct impulse,” there are actually two escape wheels along with a custom designed lever. Look closely at the sapphire crystal on the back and you will notice the Swiss FineTiming logo as well.
In a nod to the design sentiments of the 1930s, Laurent Ferrier has taken a retro-themed watch and graced it with enough of a modern touch to make it more than just a conversation piece. Perfect for the watch fanatic with a vintage spirit and a leaning toward art-deco or even for someone looking for a really unique take on the cushion-shape, the Galet Square features a lot of great little details that add up to make a very interesting timepiece.
The Laurent Ferrier Swiss FineTiming Galet Square Limited Edition Vintage America I watch is a ten-piece run and is available exclusively through Chicago’s Swiss FineTiming. The watch comes on a rich brown hand-stitched alligator-leather strap with an Alcantara lining. Pricing is $42,700. laurentferrier.com & swissfinetiming.com
