The leather strap is excellent, good cordovan with calfskin backing and simple signed thorn buckle.
The movement looks to be Elabore or Top grade, nice machine finish and dye-blued screws.
The 7001 is not a common movement. It’s more often seen in more expensive guises such as the Blancpain 7002 or Omega 651. Nice, smooth hand winding, very pleasant, with a quiet ticking that’s very discreet. Non-hacking, but that’s in character for a dial without minute markers.
Here’s a comparison shot of the 2892 in my RGM – the finishes appear equal.
On the wrist, it does a vanishing act.
You have to spend a lot to get more elegant – Calatrava, Piaget, JLC Master Ultra-Thin, that sort of thing.
My sole dislike of the watch is the crystal. As you can see, the dome of the crystal is how the case is slimmed, and forms the entire upper surface of the watch. And it’s not sapphire, instead it’s plastic Plexiglass with a ‘Sicralan’ coating. That means you have to be a lot more careful of the watch, and might have to save it for suit and tie days. Not a showstopper, but keep it in mind.
In full sunlight, there’s a very subtle dial texture. It’s not obvious, but a nice detail to appreciate.
I’m a fan of sub seconds on dress watches, and also of slenderness, so this one ticks a lot of boxes for me (Pun intended). A nice confluence of taste and value. Price is $1,414. junghans.de
