Ten years may not sound like much when stacked against so-called heritage brands like Vacheron or Patek, but in the world of small businesses, it’s more than a lifetime. Most small businesses last less than a decade, and most watch enthusiasts can name at least a handful of brands that have come and gone in the same number of years. So it’s no wonder that Texas-based brand Jack Mason is celebrating its 10th anniversary — getting here has been no small accomplishment. To do so, the brand is reaching into its archives, and reissuing the watch that started it all. The Jack Mason Pursuit Pilot 10 Year Anniversary Edition continues a path the brand set out last year while paying tribute to the years that came before.

It’s not just that 10 years is a big deal on its own, but that Jack Mason has so fully transformed in that time. When it was founded in 2015, it was built on a wholesale distribution model with a largely quartz catalog. You were far more likely to find it in a department store than a watch shop, and there was no direct-to-consumer channel. Then the brand made a dramatic shift: It decided to pull out of all those department stores and do a full pivot to direct-to-consumer. That pivot came with a shift toward mechanical movements, underpinned by the GMT Strat-o-timer introduced in 2022. In 2024, the brand made another bold decision, releasing its first Swiss Made watch, the Canton. The new Jack Mason Pursuit Pilot infuses the Canton design with elements of the original Pursuit Pilot, while still keeping everything fresh.

The new Pursuit Pilot 10 Year Anniversary Edition starts with the sleek, sporty case of the Canton, but adds a few twists. For starters, the case is made in the US, not Switzerland, a fitting homage to the brand’s American identity. The 39mm grade 2 titanium case receives a 1,200-vicker hardening coating ensuring that the warm tone of the titanium is never marred, no matter what you throw at it. Accented by a thin polished chamfer that extends the length of the 46mm lug-to-lug, the Pursuit Pilot has a split-finished bezel with a sunray brushed top and a polished bevel, giving it a bold, purposeful stance that wears easily given the 11.8mm thickness.
The case is completed by a sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown, and 150m of water resistance, reflecting the durability required of a watch built for adventure. The 20mm lugs are fitted with a quick-release brushed titanium bracelet that tapers smoothly to the folding clasp and its built-in micro-adjustment mechanism. All it takes to get the perfect fit is lift, slide, and go. Built not just with security and ruggedness in mind, the bracelet delivers uncompromising comfort that enhances the presence of the Pursuit Pilot, while the polished edge of the links creates a seamless aesthetic around the wrist.

For the Anniversary Edition dial, Jack Mason revisits the classic pilot style, emphasizing legibility and balance. The large, brushed pilot-style hands are filled with a generous application of the latest and brightest lume on the market: Super-LumiNova X2. Jack Mason is amongst the first brands to utilize this improved lume compound, and on the matte-black dial, it does so using a vintage hue to exceptional effect. The hour markers and jumbo 12 o’clock triangle, along with each numeral, are made from Lumicast, solid blocks of Super-LumiNova X2, for an even, bright appearance in the darkest environments. The seconds hand, of course, has the signature red, white, and blue Jack Mason counterbalance, and the anniversary edition has a bit of an easter egg: The 10 o’clock numeral is offered as a Roman numeral 10 in contrasting green lume to match the hands, a nod to the brand’s 10-year anniversary.

Flipping the watch over, the caseback is emblazoned with an oversized X, commemorating the anniversary along with “Ten Years | Special Edition” text. Under the screwed-down caseback is an anti-magnetic shield that increases the watch’s resistance to magnetism well beyond the standard 4,800 A/m. Ticking away beneath the shield is the La Joux-Perret G101 in its no-date execution. Jack Mason used this Swiss movement in the Canton and returns to it here to deliver performance on par with such a robust watch. The LJP G101 is regulated to -/+ 5 seconds per day and offers a substantial power reserve of 68 hours at 28,800 vph. So equipped, the watch is positioned as a fully functional timepiece, equally suited to the sky, sea, or land.
