The big news today is that buyers in Germany who use eBay.de will be able to rely on eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee (also known as “Mit Echtheitsprüfung”) when buying from watch sellers located in various European Union countries outside of Germany. eBay heralds this moment as “the expansion of our German Authenticity Service to various EU countries,” and it is a boon for many timepiece dealers in Europe who can now take advantage of the many active German watch consumers who use eBay. According to Statista, Germany is currently the largest market for wristwatches in the European Union. European countries that German buyers on eBay.de can now purchase from where Authenticity Guarantee may be available include Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Austria. This is great news for EU watch sellers.
In Germany, eBay Authenticity Guarantee service was launched in 2021 for eligible watches purchased at prices of 1,800 Euros and up. Once purchased, there is no additional cost for the Authenticity Guarantee inspection. The cost of additional shipping, insurance, and professional services are included in the final price for consumers, and for applicable sellers, it is included in their final fees. For comparison purposes, the starting value of Authenticity Guarantee watches is $2,000 USD in the United States (and is available for all watches priced at $500+ USD and with a modest $80 fee), and 1,500 GBP in the United Kingdom (for buyers there purchasing eligible watches on eBay.co.uk or eBay.com, respectively).
eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee program offers a multi-point inspection to ensure that the watch you are buying is authentic and matches the description. eBay’s authentication services have proven popular (and are growing) in the United States, thanks to a focus on consumer satisfaction, value, and integrity.
