You lucky readers get a treat this month. A chance to win a very special watch from a very special collector and aBlogtoRead.com sponsor. Out of Max Busser’s (the “MB” in MB&F) personal collection is this circa 1974 Omega Speedmaster Mark 4.5 watch. In steel and about 42mm wide, this beauty is in quite good condition with a movement that was just serviced by MB&F’s watch makers!
Inside the watch is an Omega movement that is a base automatic Lemania 5100. The 5100 is quite famous and has some interesting complications. While it might look like a Valjoux 7750 at first glance, the 5100 uses the central dial for counting both the seconds and the minutes, while the movement also has a synchronized 24 hour indicator the helps with military time and serving as a day/night indicator. This model is a euro version – so it has the days of the week in French. To learn more about this Omega Speedmaster watch, please check out this article by the late and great “Omega king” Chuck Maddox. Pieces like this watch range in value from about $1,500 – $2,000 and are not very common. So enter for a chance to win this one!
