Gaia & Co. has set out with a simple mission to create a simple dress watch that provides classic style with modern watchmaking. The debut Gaia & Co. Primavera line does just this, all completely handmade in Besancon, France. We sought to keep traditional, handmade watches available to an audience that would ordinarily find them out of reach by putting our focus on craftsmanship and design, and are proud to share the Primavera.
The Gaia & Co. Primavera case is designed to be classically sized at 38mm, a size that we found to strike the perfect balance. Legible silver polished hands, a dial that isn’t cluttered with needless text or date complications, and dial colors that reflect our mission were all design considerations that went into making the Primavera the watch you see now. The case is done in stainless steel with a domed crystal on the dial that reveals the brushed face of the watch in two ways. The edges of the case are circular whereas the face of the dial has a linear brush pattern. This was the extent of most visual flourishes and decoration we wanted to do. Again, traditional simplicity was at the forefront of our design.
As we mentioned, there are three dial color options on the Gaia & Co. Primavera watch. Azzura, is the deep blue dial, Bianca is the white dial, and Nero is the black dial. The dials are seen through a hesalite glass with anti-scratch treatment. These three dial colors are all a limited edition run of 300 pieces each, and the Primavera collection will not exceed the 900 pieces.
The leather straps are French-made as well, utilizing a gentle tanning process that keeps them anti-allergenic. The Azzura dial model comes on the dark brown strap, the Bianca dial comes on the tan strap, and the Nero dial comes on a matching black strap. Each strap and dial color choice was specially chosen to match each other and keep the Primavera style as cohesive as we intended.
We chose to use the reliable and affordable Miyota 8215 caliber movement to power the Gaia & Co. Primavera watch. With 21 jewels and an operating speed of 21,600 vph, the Japanese movement achieves a 40-hour power reserve. It’s got the right accuracy and a power reserve that can last for the good part of a weekend. This made the Miyota movement the right choice for our buyers.
Pricing for early backers will be €399, which is a significant discount over the future retail price of €629. You can look and shop the Gaia & Co. Primavera watches on our Kickstarter campaign page here. The Gaia & Co. Primavera will be a limited edition run, and each of the three dial colors will be numbered on the caseback. gaia-co.fr
