Since its official introduction in 2018, the in-house Heuer 02 chronograph movement has become standard equipment for nearly all TAG Heuer’s high end chronograph lines. The iconic square cased Monaco is no different, with the first regular production Monaco models transitioning over to the new powerplant in late 2019. As part of its 2020 novelties, the brand has returned to the Monaco Heuer 02 series, adding both a black dial variant and an optional H-link bracelet. These new options for the TAG Heuer Monaco Heuer 02 help to solidify this in-house movement as the way forward for the brand, while reviving popular variations for prospective buyers.

These new models share the same familiar right hand crown variant of the 39mm stainless steel square case shared by nearly all current Monaco models, with its wide angled pushers, short sloping lugs, and sapphire caseback. The new black sunburst dial option offers a darker, monochrome alternative to the classic blue dial Monaco look, feeling more restrained and neatly sidestepping the associations with Steve McQueen and Walter White that come with more common blue dial models. Other than the main dial’s color change, the rest of the design remains intact, with the red chronograph hands becoming more of a dramatic focal point as the only bright color. As the name would suggest, TAG Heuer powers this black dial Monaco Heuer 02 with the in-house Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement, with a vertical clutch, column wheel, and a hefty 80 hour power reserve. The other major update comes with the strap and bracelet options. TAG Heuer offers this new black dial Monaco Heuer 02 on either a classic black alligator leather strap with a deployant clasp, or its new stainless steel H-link bracelet. This new bracelet flows well with the iconic square case design, with wide short links that help to emphasize the angularity of the case. The polished square center links look in initial images to add a pop of contrast to the mostly brushed top of the case, as well. While debuting only on black dial models, the blue dial Monaco Heuer 02 will also be available with this new bracelet beginning in December 2020.
With the new black dial Monaco Heuer 02, TAG Heuer adds its first major variants to the regular production Monaco Heuer 02 series. The black dial TAG Heuer Monaco Heuer 02 is available now through authorized dealers at an MSRP of $6,750. For more details, please visit the brand’s website.
