The new Italian brand echo/neutra was founded with a distinct appreciation for the Dolomites, a mountain range in Northeastern Italy. The echo/neutra Averau is the inaugural watch collection from the brand, coming in several variations inspired by different Dolomites-related themes and motifs. These watches have a focus on legibility, consistent design language, and an enthusiast-friendly mechanical watch identity that’s also accessible.
Founded by Nicola Callagero and Cristiano Quaglia, echo/neutra is a watch brand that truly stands behind the philosophy of “emotional durability,” in which materials items of sentimental value are intelligently designed and built to last. Callagero has experience in design and communication, while Quaglia is an aerospace engineer, specializing in propulsion systems.
There are five versions of the Averau, though all come in the same three-piece steel case, which measures 42mm-wide, 10.9mm-thick, and has a lug-to-lug measurement of 49mm. They all have a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating for maximum legibility. The hands are also coated with Super-LumiNova. Anticipating everyday wear and tear and weather exposure, the Averau is water resistant to 100M.
The Averau comes in two available Swiss-made movements, the STP 1-11 or the STP 3-13. Both operate at 28,800 vph with a power reserve of 44-hours. The STP 3-13 comes with a slight price premium because this movement is outfitted with a swan-neck regulator (for finer movement tuning) and hardened blued screws (for both corrosion resistance and aesthetics), features often found in higher-end movements. Both movements have a Nivaflex NM mainspring and Incabloc Shock System.
There are five different styles of the echo/neutra Averau, all inspired by different aspects and traits of the Dolomites. The Versante (“side of the mountain” in Italian) Nord is done in a brushed steel case with black dial; Versante Est is done in a PVD case with sand dial; Versante Sud is done in PVD case with a black-on-black dial; and there are two versions of the Versante Ovest, which has a sunray blue dial in PVD or brushed steel.
All five versions are characterized by some consistent design choices, in addition to the case and dial layout. The seconds hand is inspired by trail signage found in the Dolomites that is used by the CAI, which is the Italian Alpine Club. The screw-down crown with our engraved logo is another design point the brand is taking pride in and has used throughout the collection.
The echo/neutra Averau will have water-resistant strap options in black leather, light brown leather, and black cordura. In addition to the leather straps, there are also options for a stainless steel bracelet and vintage-style NATO leather strap.
