DWISS (Design Watch Independent Switzerland) is bringing 100 Swiss made limited edition mechanical watches to crowdfunding, using the Caliber ETA 7001, a hand-winding top grade movement. During the crowdfunding campaign, backers will have the option of engraving their names on the movement (or any word up to 20 letters). The new models – DWISS RC1 Mechanical and DWISS RS1 Mechanical – were created to complete last year’s collection, DWISS R1. The campaign will start on Monday January 29th at 1 p.m. Swiss time (UTC +1); 4 a.m. Los Angeles (PST); 7 am New York (EST); 12 p.m. UK (GMT); and 8 p.m. Singapore and last for 12 days.
The first crowdfunding campaign in 2016 presented the collection DWISS M2, which was awarded two design awards; IDA (International Design Award) and ePDA (European Product Design Award), the latter granted at a ceremony held at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The second campaign, DWISS R1, introduced for the first time a Swiss made tourbillon to Kickstarter in 2017, making it the greatest watch ever presented to crowdfunding yet. This collection also has automatic and quartz versions. The tourbillon uses a Concepto 8950 movement; the automatic uses the ETA 2824-2 elabore or top-grade; and the quartz uses a Ronda 714. All of them are available to pre-order here.
This third campaign aims at achieving funds solely to purchase the mechanical movements and complete the R1 collection with a hand-winding masterpiece. The movement is a semi-skeleton, top-grade, ETA 7001 (2.5mm thick, 17 jewels, Incabloc shock protection system, and 42 hours of power reserve) and beats at a rate of 21,600vph (3Hz).
Based on the design of some of the previous R1 models, the new mechanical watches have a 40mm x 8mm 316L stainless steel case, sapphire crystal with AR-coating, water resistance to 10 ATM, Italian leather (and Italian made) straps, with the option to add a stainless steel 3-link bracelet.
The two mechanical models are limited to 100 watches each – the DWISS RS1 has a black IP coated case and black glossy dial with applied indexes. The DWISS RC1 is a classic version with a white dial and roman numerals.
Supporting DWISS on Kickstarter, the earliest backers will be able to purchase the new watches for 420 CHF (half off the full retail price) and have the chance to engrave any word on the movement that is up to 20 letters (this option will not be available after the campaign’s end). dwiss.com
