The Cuervo y Sobrinos Torpedo Pirata Chrono case is sizable at 45mm wide, which looks bigger thanks to the exaggerated lugs, crown, and pushers. The three part case is made up of a combination of bronze, titanium, and steel. Uncoated, the Torpedo Pirata cases look quite cool with their various tones. For the 3051 model, Cuervo y Sobrinos coated everything with black DLC (diamond like carbon). It is a very hard, scratch resistant coating and is generally considered more durable than most standard PVD coatings.
The Cuervo y Sobrinos Torpedo Pirata Chrono collection certainly isn’t for everyone, and this limited edition “Black Beard” (“Barba negra”) model is even more niche. Or perhaps this black coating helps make it a bit more mainstream. While it is a strange watch that will upset those who prefer more classic design, it is still my favorite Cuervo y Sobrinos model, given its dedication to the brand’s heritage and because it is so un-apologetically different. Limited to just 100 pieces, the Cuervo y Sobrinos Torpedo Pirata Chrono in DLC black ref. 3051.5BB retails for $10,200. cuervoysobrinos.com
