This past week, Casio held their annual Shock The World event in New York City. We were on hand to witness the formal unveiling of several important upcoming models, and to partake in the festivities surrounding this year’s special theme – 30 Years of G-Shock. Special guests Jessica Stam, James Marsden, Book Lopez, and Louie Vito joined executives from Casio and hundreds of press, retailers, and VIPs to mark the occasion, which was topped off by none other than The Real Slim Shady himself – Eminem (which was awesome).
Keeping with their tradition of going over the top, Casio announced not one or two – but almost a dozen new lines, models, and special editions. Also teased were new “Ultimate G-Shock” models coming in the next year: the Ultimate Iceman; Ultimate Heatman; and Ultimate Frogman. We will go into more detail with each in the near future, but for now, here’s a quick overview of new highlights from G-Shock. Note that these are some, but not all of the new new G-Shock watches:
30th Anniversary Model – LIGHTNING YELLOW
Capping off a collection of special edition models released in the past year celebrating their 30th year, this Lightning Yellow scheme is available on a number of G-Shock models being launched in December. The yellow color scheme harkens back to G-Shock’s earliest colored watches, launched in 1992. $140 – $1,700
Rangeman (GW9400)
Part of the Master of G Collection, the all-new Rangeman is a tactical timepiece designed specifically for field use by military personnel, first responders, and expeditioners. The Rangeman features a 200M water resistant case, digital compass, altimeter, multi-band Atomic Timekeeping, and Casio’s Tough Solar Power system. It will be available in both black and army green. $300
MT-G (MTGS1000D)
The biggest stir of the event was caused by the recently announced Metal Twisted G-Shock, or MT-G. The first ever G to utilize metal casing components, the MT-G is aimed at the G-Shock enthusiast seeking a more luxurious timepiece without sacrificing the tough qualities you’ve come to expect from a G. The piece utilizes a new case design integrating metal components with resin, alpha Gel, and their highest-end Tough movement. Three versions will be available in November, starting with an exclusive launch at Tourneau and the G-Shock store in SoHo, NYC. $900-$1,000
