2021 experienced the release of another record-breaking watch from Bulgari. Following half a dozen years of introducing “world’s thinnest” mechanical watch movements, the latest master-of-thin piece is the BVLGARI Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar. It sets the record as the world’s thinnest automatic mechanical watch with a perpetual calendar complication. The in-house-made movement is just 2.75mm-thick, in an Octo Finissimo case that is just 5.8mm-thick.
Perpetual calendar mechanisms are calendars that take into account the difference in length between both months and leap years. The 408 components of the hand-assembled caliber BVL305 micro-rotor-based automatic movement fill a narrow space and also elegantly form a symmetrical perpetual calendar display on the Octo Finissimo watch dial. The watch itself debuts in sandblasted titanium, as well as in platinum, in an Octo Finissimo-style case that is 40mm-wide.
Antoine Pin is the Managing Director of the LVMH Watch Division, and he oversees the production and creation of new BVLGARI mechanical watch calibers. In the above video, Mr. Pin invites fellow watch enthusiasts into the Le Sentier, Switzerland headquarters where these rare mechanical creations are imagined and manufactured. There, he discusses the development of the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar watch and discusses the development with a master watchmaker at BVLGARI.
The Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar watch is available starting in Summer 2021. Priced at $59,000 USD in titanium on a matching bracelet, and $89,000 USD in 950 Platinum. BVGLARI invites you to discover more about the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar watch collection via its website here.
