Welcome back to an aBlogtoWatch original series, where we discuss important stores that sell watches all over the world. Each store we profile has an interesting story to tell about where they operate and who they sell to. Whether you buy watches from brick and mortar retailers or prefer to buy watches online, these are the stores that help shape our watch culture around the globe. There is a long list of stores to cover, but if there is a retail location in your favorite city that we simply can’t miss, let us know in the comments below. Here is a map of stores we have covered so far.
Where to buy watches in Schenectady, New York?
Worlds away from New York City is the upstate city of Schenectady, New York. As a school kid, I learned about Schenectady as being on the Erie Canal (which linked the Great Lakes with New York City via the Hudson River). Serving Schenectady and Albany in New York, as well as Manchester in neighboring Vermont, is Northeastern Fine Jewelry. They opened their doors back in 1985 and have been selling watches for the past 15 years.
aBlogtoWatch: What types of watches are popular in your market? What makes Schenectady a unique place to buy watches?
Northeastern Fine Jewelry: We find that our clients appreciate and enjoy “classics” along with annual innovations from brand to brand. The vast majority of our collectors are on edge waiting for new product launches and deliveries in June. We are as excited as they are when summer rolls around.
ABTW: What would you tell watch lovers in other cities about the tastes of watch lovers in Schenectady?
Northeastern Fine Jewelry: They select watches that speak the same language of who they are as individuals.
ABTW: Do you serve mostly locals or tourists, or is it a good mix? Also, what percentage of your customers would you call “knowledgeable watch collectors?”
Northeastern Fine Jewelry: We are a nice balance of each. What’s nice about this is it allows us to have a wide variety of pieces which caters to any and all. It allows the consumer the ability to see the core collection within the brands and some out-of-the-box pieces.
ABTW: What is Schenectady best known for? What do visitors have to do, see, or eat while there?
Northeastern Fine Jewelry: We are full of history, being the headquarters of places such as General Electric, the Saratoga Race Course, Proctors Theater, beautiful Lake George, and some of the most delicious eateries around. You won’t be disappointed with the history and culture at your fingertips.
ABTW: As a business, do you sponsor or participate in any local events, watch-related or otherwise?
Northeastern Fine Jewelry: We are highly involved in the community both related and unrelated to the world of jewelry and watches.
ABTW: What are some of the watch brands you are known for carrying? If you could pick a watch brand or model that epitomizes the culture or style of Schenectady what would it be?
Northeastern Fine Jewelry: Cartier, Breitling, Omega, IWC, Panerai, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, and many more. I would say the IWC Portuguese Chronograph best epitomizes the tastes of Schenectady. This watch screams sophistication and detail. It’s also timeless. You can dress it up or dress it down. nefj.com
