Welcome back to an aBlogtoWatch original series, where we discuss important stores that sell watches all over the world. Each store we profile has an interesting story to tell about where they operate and who they sell to. Whether you buy watches from brick and mortar retailers or prefer to buy watches online, these are the stores that help shape our watch culture around the globe. There is a long list of stores to cover, but if there is a retail location in your favorite city that we simply can’t miss, let us know in the comments below.
Where to buy watches in Frisco, Texas?
We again visit a watch store where the owners are deeply involved with running their business and serving their customers. In the north Dallas/Fort Worth suburb of Frisco, you will find Timeless Luxury Watches, which opened their doors in 2010. But Dan and Anna Broadfoot have been selling watches for 15 years, so they are able to put their years of experience to work for their customers in the “DFW” metropolitan area and beyond.
aBlogtoWatch: What types of watches are popular in your market?
Timeless Luxury: We specialize in unique brands, and although Texas is known for big brands like Rolex and Breitling, we do very well with brands like Grand Seiko, Bremont, Ball, Girard Perregaux, Nomos Glashutte, etc. The watch enthusiasts who like our brands are in every market; we just have to find each other. There are two types of customers at Timeless: 1) Customers who are looking for something different, and we can show them fantastic watches they have never heard of – opening their eyes to a whole new watch world. 2) Customers who are looking for a specific brand that we carry and have heard of Timeless through our many watch reviews posted on various forums.
ABTW: What makes the Dallas/Ft. Worth area a unique place to buy watches?Timeless Luxury: Since Timeless offers unique brands, there are now very few watches you can’t find in the DFW market. The DFW area is very unique in terms of selection. Simply put, it caters to luxury. Customers can buy anything from a Damasko, Nomos, or Grand Seiko, to a Vacheron Constantin, Ulysse Nardin, or Patek Philippe and everything in between. And of course, there are about sixteen places to buy a Texas Timex (Rolex).
ABTW: What would you tell watch lovers in other cities that watch lovers in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area like?
Timeless Luxury: To be honest, I think that watch lovers are similar worldwide. We all have a passion for the hobby and we all seem to get along like old friends at get togethers (GTGs).
ABTW: Do you serve mostly locals or tourists, or is it a good mix? Also, what percentage of your customers would you call “knowledgeable watch collectors?”
Timeless Luxury: We do have a strong local base of loyal watch enthusiasts, but we deal with customers all over the US. Additionally, many of our pre-owned watches are sent all over the world. Our store is not located in a tourist area, so we don’t sell to that market, and our brands are typically not tourist watches. To answer your second question, that’s one of the great things about carrying the brands that we carry; we often have customers who are passionate about watches and in many cases are knowledgeable watch collectors, or getting there with our help. Those customers go into many watch stores knowing more than the average sales associate, making it difficult for them to get additional information on the brands they are interested in. However, at Timeless we pride ourselves on being able to answer the hardest questions.
ABTW: What are Dallas and Ft. Worth best known for? What do visitors have to do, see, or eat while there?
Timeless Luxury: A lot of people seem to think the Dallas/Fort Worth area is all about cowboys and saloons, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. DFW is filled with culture. We have the arts district, museums, zoos, aquariums, and, if you are a foodie, there are so many good places to eat from slow cooked award winning BBQ to gourmet cuisine. Furthermore, we can’t forget to mention our amazing sport venues. The Cowboys stadium in Arlington is a must see. In our town of Frisco alone, we have soccer, hockey, and baseball complexes, not to mention Jerry Jones is currently building the new Dallas Cowboys training facility right down the road from our store.
ABTW: As a business, do you sponsor or participate in any local events, watch-related or otherwise?
Timeless Luxury: We currently sponsor a Watchuseek GTG. We had so much success at our first event, that we have started to make it a bi-yearly ordeal. The next event will be on February 28, 2015. At past events, we had a raffle and gave away numerous watch related prizes including a Damasko watch. You wouldn’t believe it, but the youngest person in the audience won the watch! He was a 15-year-old WIS and he was attending with his father. It was awesome.
ABTW: What are some of the watch brands you are known for carrying?
Timeless Luxury: We are known for many brands, but the ones that come to mind first are Grand Seiko, Bremont, and Nomos. These brands, in my mind, symbolize the future of the watch industry. Those are just the beginning. Louis Moinet, Girard Perregaux, Armin Strom, and Maurice LaCroix are just a few of the other amazing brands you will find at Timeless.
ABTW: If you could pick a watch brand or model that epitomizes the culture or style of Dallas/Ft. Worth, what would it be?
Timeless Luxury: DFW is constantly changing. If you asked me this question 10 years ago I would say Rolex in a heartbeat, but the cities have become somewhat of a melting pot with so many large corporations coming here, and the watch customers are younger than they used to be. The Rolex customer is getting older and his kids don’t want to wear an old man’s watch, so they started wearing Breitling and Bell and Ross. Then, they became educated in watches and started buying Grand Seiko and Nomos Glashutte. The way I think about it is the Internet has changed the watch industry for the better. The Internet has educated so many people on what good watches and good value are. When there wasn’t easy access to this information, the consumer had to rely on advertising and the largest brands always won. But, thanks to the Internet and stores like Timeless, collectors and first time buyers are realizing there are other options in the luxury watch market, very unique and exciting options.
