The silicone strap keeper is both a design highlight and practical – Jacob noticed that leather keepers were often the first thing to wear out, and thus chose silicone for durability. I also like the color accent it adds. The other unexpected thing that I like is that the placement of the crown makes it possible to set the watch without removing it from your wrist; handy for a quick timezone adjustment.
The hands are lighter than the dial and have a very legible matte finish. No lume, no markers, no second hand. About the only sign of life is very subtle: The Rhonda movement moves the minute hand every ten seconds with the smallest of steps.
The Pebble is not a sport watch. Water resistance is a minimal 30m, and they recommend not getting it wet, as the leather strap will wear rapidly.
It’s a pleasure to wear. Very subtle and practical. A bare dial is easier to read than you’d think.
It feels understated, expensive, and very well designed. The lack of branding and non-bling finish remind me of the MIH or the ochs und junior line.
Wearability is excellent, with the lightweight and slim case. It makes an interesting choice with a suit and tie, and would be great if meeting design-oriented professionals.
It’s easy to read the time to within 2-3 minutes, though of course not in the dark.
Us watch geeks usually skip quartz watches, but I like this one and you might too. It’s very well made, of first rate materials, and the design is just unusual enough to make you smile when you wear it. I like the ten-year battery, it’s a nice touch and means that the watch should be zero hassle for many years. I also like the use of sapphire and stainless steel, both of which are very durable and tough.
Though you may have to let your wife borrow it too. It works well on a woman, and there’s not a lot of watches where that’s true.
The Pebble is available in other colors as well:
The Pebble is a limited edition, with only 200 total (50 of each combination) to be made. It’s not a watch you’ll find on anyone else, which adds to the appeal.
The list price is 2,550 Danish Krone, or about $450. A lot for a quartz, or not much for a high-grade designer piece that should last. For a unique design, good materials and high-end movement, it’s a good value. I like it. bulbul.dk
