Since its inception in 2002, Bremont has prided itself on being a uniquely British watch brand. While British design and manufacturing plays a major part in this patriotic brand ethos, many of Bremont’s timepieces play with the idea of directly incorporating a piece of British history itself into the watch. One example of this is the EP120, which contained material from an original Supermarine Spitfire fighter aircraft that flew in World War II. With its latest release, however, Bremont takes incorporating British excellence into timepieces in a far more figurative and vibrant direction.
The new 1947 Collection, developed in partnership with legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and noted painter Ronnie Wood, uses unique pieces of Wood’s artwork painted directly on the dials by the artist himself as its centerpiece. Wood has a long history with the Bremont brand, being an avid collector and having previously collaborated on a sea clock project in 2011. The 1947 Collection is named to commemorate Wood’s birth year and is limited to 47 units. Each watch features a completely bespoke, one of a kind dial design.
These hand-painted designs vary wildly from stylized depictions of guitars to abstract color patterns and even written messages like “TIME ROCKS ON.” What is kept in common between all 47 iterations is the handset, a pair of blued leaf hands with strips of lume contrasted with a red stick pointer date at six. The other commonality is the general dial layout, with a classic triple date layout of day at 11 o’clock, month at 1 o’clock and pointer date with an added moonphase window at 6 o’clock.
Each of the 1947 Collection pieces uses the classic Bremont Trip-Tick case shape, with strong curved lugs and polished bezel rendered in 42 millimeters of white gold. While the precious metal makes this less directly sporty than many of Bremont’s offerings, the 1947 Collection still offers a respectable 100 meters of water resistance. Each case back features a “1 of 1” engraving, along with a sapphire display window printed with the phrase “I Feel Like Painting.”
Inside each model of the 1947 Collection beats a highly modified version of Bremont’s DTE3022-31 automatic movement. In addition to a winding rotor featuring Ronnie Wood’s signature the movement offers a 46-hour power reserve and a beat rate of 28,800 bph.
The watches of the Bremont 1947 Collection are paired with a 22 millimeter black alligator leather strap, with a signed buckle in white gold for a timelessly refined look.
The 1947 Collection is a natural extension of Bremont’s drive to preserve shards of history encapsulated in fine timepieces.
