Bleau Watches is a Melbourne-based watch company inspired by independent watchmaking that wanted to offer something more affordable and accessible than the designs they are inspired by. Their founder, Daniel Trajanovski set out to deliver something that would be noteworthy but not inaccessible. He is focused on delivering a great value proposition that contains some core watchmaking techniques and materials whilst keeping prices modest, especially via the Kickstarter campaign he is using to launch the brand. Today, the brand is introducing the Bleau Watches Modest Collection.
Daniel insisted on a few core ingredients and he simply wouldn’t compromise on quality or craftsmanship to bring the brand to life with the first Modest range. The case design is completely bespoke with a contemporary 39mm size. The 3-piece case is highly polished on all surfaces and features a sapphire crystal with AR-coating as well as a display caseback.
Inside is a Sellita SW 260-1 automatic winding workhorse movement with a 38-hour power reserve. Daniel found it challenging to source time-only Swiss movements but found a solution with a local watchmaker teaming up to modify the movements locally in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia.
The crown is subtle and traditional in its shape accommodating a subtle Bleau shield logo. The dials are simple and clean with sub-seconds at 6 o’clock. The cream variation hosts an enamel dial and the blue hands are flame-blued. Elements like these are what make Daniel proud to be able to deliver unique materials at this price point. All 3 variations (Blue, Grey, and Cream) all come with a genuine alligator strap that has been carefully selected to feature a large-scale pattern adding to the appeal.
Designed and assembled in Melbourne, Australia, they are definitely a value proposition when it comes to the overall package. Daniel believes it is crucial to contain the assembly process local to him in Melbourne to enable him to stay close to the quality assurance process. He believes having this localized hands-on touch point should give backers the confidence that he can deliver a quality product and ensure a successful Kickstarter campaign.
