1. WALKTHROUGH THE INSPIRING WORKSHOP OF AKRIVIA
Akrivia is surely one of the hottest independent brands right now. The brand was already a known entity among serious watch-lovers, but it received serious attention when it made the Chronomètre Contemporain “Only Watch” — a special one-off piece made for the Only Watch auction. Adding to the intrigue of the brand is the fact that its founder, Rexhep Rexhepi, will only be 33 years old this year. Take a look at the workshop of Akrivia here.

2. REVIEW GRAND SEIKO ELEGANCE GMT SBGM221
When Grand Seiko underwent its major rebranding exercise in 2017, its dressy GMT watch, the SBGM021, became the SBGM221. The differences aren’t many, but they make for a completely different watch. Unchanged is the classic round case which comes in a very reasonable 39.5mm size, with perfectly finished indices and a creamy ivory dial. What has changed, however, is that the traditional Seiko logo at 12 o’clock is lost, and in its place is the Grand Seiko logo, which has moved up from 6 o’clock. It doesn’t sound like much, but many feel that the new watch lacks the symmetry of the old SBGM021.

3. FAKE ROLEX WITH CLONED MOVEMENT VERSUS REAL
Counterfeiters are going to great lengths to copy watches. Today, it’s not too hard to find copies that look and feel like the real thing. But if there is one thing replicas lack, it is the movement. They often come with cheap movements that neither look nor perform like the real thing. That, however, could change, as counterfeiters are now looking to make replica watches with movements that look like the watches they copy. There’s still a long way to go, but it still takes a trained eye and some knowledge to be able to differentiate the cloned movements from the genuine ones. Take a look at the video and see for yourself.

4. ENAMEL DIAL ATELIER IN SINGAPORE – TRAVAILLER ET JOUER WATCHES
Enamel has some interesting properties that make it an extremely desirable material for a watch, mostly because it develops very intense and brilliant colors. It’s also very hard-wearing and, as a result, never fades. As such, it is not uncommon to see vintage watches with enamel dials retaining much of their former glory. It is these qualities that make it an ideal material for watch dials. This is the story of how a young entrepreneur became inspired to make his own enamel dials and how the dials are made.

5. 11 OF THE BEST AFFORDABLE WATCHES THAT ARE STILL SERIOUSLY COOL
Sure, a watch designed with the principles of resonance in mind is seriously cool, but a watch’s cool factor is in no way determined solely by its price tags. You can find cool watches at any price point. An excellent example is Swatch’s Sistem51. Assembled and regulated entirely by machines, it’s something of an engineering marvel. Another example is Casio’s new Mudmaster GG-B100. Here is a watch that has a carbon case and no fewer than four sensors that can be had for well under $500. Find out what other watches are on this list in the link below.
