Ball is really on a roll when it comes to new releases and I frankly don’t know how many new ones there are for 2014. There are six new SKUs here alone with the various dial and strap/bracelet options. Ball offers the Fireman Storm Chaser Pro with a white, black, or gray dial – each with two contrasting chronograph subdials. Personally I like the white dialed version the best given my preference for cool sport watches with well-done white dials.
It is interesting to see the slate gray offered in addition to the black dial. The former has a vertically brushed finish while the deeper black dial is more matte. I really do think that Ball got it right playing with color on this collection. No doubt the Fireman Storm Chaser Pro is more colorful than your average classy sport watch, but it does so in a way that allows for it to retain an elegant composure.
Of course, a difficult question is whether to go with the fitted steel bracelet or the strap. Each has pluses and I think it would be worth it for owners to have both. The calf leather strap is particularly nice and I love the design of the buckle. The bracelet has a quality modern look to it with a low-profile butterfly style deployant.
Inside the Fireman Storm Chaser Pro is the Ball caliber RR1402 automatic chronograph movement which is essentially a Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750. It offers the time, 12 hour chronograph, and a day/date complication. The reference number family for the collection is: CM3090C-S1J-BK/GY/WH | CM3090C-L1J-BK/GY/WH, and the retail price for Ball Fireman Storm Chaser Pro watches is just north of $3,000. ballwatch.com
