Audaceone is a new independent French brand you may have not heard of. The brand creates high-end watches with an approach that links traditional techniques to contemporary design. They’ve just introduced their first collection: SQUARE. Sometimes, a name doesn’t have to be difficult. The design unveils dynamic lines highlighted by cutting-edge materials used in the automotive industry and aerospace applications.
The roots of Audaceone began in 2017 when founder and engineer Clement Jean-Louis started to imagine a watch brand with firmly contemporary codes. For this purpose, he was joined by designer Vincent Fourdrinier, who has designed several haute horlogerie watches for major brands. The brand is a combination of two words: Audace in French means “Boldness/Daring,” and One is added to evoke uniqueness and difference. With this brand name, the watches promise to be different from what we are used to seeing.
The watches are Swiss made. As you are already wondering what kind of “Swiss made” watches they are, the brand will make it clear. Each component is custom made by their partners located exclusively in Switzerland and France. They are all renowned for their know-how and work with major brands.
The case measures 42 x 42mm and 9mm in thickness, which makes for nice wrist presence without being too big. The first impression you get when you wear the watch is: “Wow, how light!” – thanks to carbon and titanium the watch weighs barely 70 grams.
Carbon has become more and more popular in watches, but it should be noted that Vincent Fourdrinier, who designed the watch, was one of the first to introduce this type of carbon in 2007, some time before Audemars Piguet. The Audaceone SQUARE case is composed of a high-performance carbon composite. It is made of a polymer matrix and unidirectional carbon fiber-reinforced tapes initially developed for aerospace applications.
This innovative mind extends today with the integration of the automatic movement directly on the carbon frame. It’s a world premiere. This design reduces the number of parts required and helps reduce the weight of the watch.
Speaking of the movement. The Audaceone SQUARE is powered by the VMF 3002 from Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, which is reputed to work with brands like Richard Mille and Hermès. The VMF 3002 is a high-performance movement which features a ceramic ball bearing, balance with variable inertia, double barrel rapid rotations in series, and a 50-hour power reserve. The aperture in the center of the dial reveals a part of this movement. The design and integration of the bracelet is unique in its kind. The attachment is made via a titanium plate and screws and the bracelet is bi-material rubber and leather.
SQUARE Titanium Carbon features the dial “Lumière” (“Light”) whose bevels capture the light in a mesmerizing way. SQUARE Titanium DLC Carbon features a matte black dial with a blue index. The hands are flame blued. The blue accents are not very common on dials and bring a touch of elegance to this watch.
Each model is limited to 60 pieces and individually numbered. SQUARE Titanium Carbon is priced at €6,000 and the Titanium DLC Carbon version is priced at €6,500. You can learn more and order on their online boutique. audaceone.com
